"We talked. It was just the venue and the surprise that I knew couldn't have come from you." She pauses, shrugs. Now that she's actually given it some thought, the situation was a little odd. Bordering on scandalous. "I took a walk and found her waiting in my quarters in the evening. I evidently need to change my door code."

Aiko looks at Hisui, a little surprised, "...That was most certainly not the advice I would have given on the subject, no. And yes, a door code change would be wise. Perhaps to something that won't be easily guessed from knowing you. Did you use one of your children's birthdates?"

"I had that same look when I saw her. Maybe a little worse," she says, noting the surprise. "And I used my old student number from when I went here. I figured it's the last thing anyone would guess, especially her. I hadn't heard from her in months before she saw me in the courtyard days ago. And if I used the birthdate of the twins, she'd have had an easier time guessing."
A pause.
"She knows me a little too well, doesn't she?"

"Given how long you've known her? I wouldn't call it too surprising," Aiko replies with a small smile, "After all, you are a pretty open book at times."

"Years. Honestly, she's practically family." She smiles, relaxing a little more. "I'm an open book to the people that matter to me. I don't think I've ever been able to hide anything from you for longer than an afternoon, for example."

"Fast, but I'm comfortable with that," she answers. "I'm meeting her later in the dojo for lunch. We're trying not to spend too much time with each other. Have lives outside of the other, you know? But I am trying to learn some of her interests and she's trying to dabble in some of mine."
"But I have been very honest with her. She knows my various issues and I know hers. It was sort of her idea, too. Get the ugly out of the way, so we know if we're going to scare each other off early on."

"Surprising, isn't it?" she asks, because Hisui was certainly surprised by the whole thing. "Though I think she's the more sensible one between the two of us. I'm the more openly affectionate one. But I think we balance each other out. Fill each other's gaps, in an emotional sense."
A pause. Then a bemused little smile.
"You're not going to sit her down and warn her about breaking my heart, are you?"

"Hisui, I would think my reputation and the fact that I am your friend should do that for me," Aiko replies, "Besides, I suppose I'd probably have to get in line after Bayushi Makubesu-sensei and his wife."
