"My apologies if I am incorrect, Tsuki-san." She bows to punctuate this. "As the plan was relayed to me, no mention of a residing Crane lord as recipient of the letter was made. Only that the letter was meant to provoke a duel and that there would be a crime lord involved."
This is why I didn't want this job.
"Akodo-san has become aware that Kakita Uetani-san is going to a dangerous situation. He insists on being there with her, regardless of my attempts to convince him otherwise. Due to his insistence and the fact that we do not know the extent of the opposition, it was prudent to bring him along. At least for this one task."

Tsuki gave an 'ah' response as Hisui explained both why she said crime lord and why the Akodo was suddenly involved in this. The feelings of teenagers at work and the enabling of teachers strikes again! On a more serious note, Tsuki did ponder over this for a moment, seemingly wanting to make sure that what she heard and what Hisui was told lined up.
"I am unsure what you were told, but when I was there, father made mention that upon the group of whomever goes to the Dragon lands where Kakita Ichiro-san is stationed, the letter is be presented to the Crane Lord over there. Something in the letter should provoke a justified duel, which Mirumoto-san is likely the one to take up. If I were take a guess, the reason is likely linked to him." She noted to Hisui.

"Why would there be a residing Crane lord in a Dragon province? I was under the impression we were going to the Dragon provinces?"
Now Noboru was absolutely confused. So confused his player initially typed Taikishi for his character's name. Of course, it also didn't help that things like courts weren't even in his sphere of understanding so the thought that the Crane Lord may be the head of a delegation within the province was completely lost to him.

"Head of the delegation," Tsuki answered, "It would be an odd set of circumstances for some single, random Crane to be in your provinces, Mirumoto-san. Generally each province is likely to have some delegation and embassy from others clans within the territory, almost always next to the most important court that resides within the province."

Fuyuko gives a small nod. "The man in question, Ichiro-san, is suspected of running organized crime as well as various other crimes against the Empire. He has abused knowledge of the feud to use it to defend himself and killed several prosecutors who tried to arrest him, mostly Mirumoto. We now are aware that he was using knowledge of the feud before it became...known. This indicates he is likely an accomplice of our primary foe. The letter if sealed will provoke a duel with Mirumoto-san and upon winning the duel, Ichiro-san's crimes will become evident and he will either attempt to flee, in which case we will be ready, or he will attempt to have us murdered to hide his crimes, in which case we will need to fight our way out."

"I stand by the fact I won't face him without the evidence that went missing in his trial. His prosecutors..." Noboru stopped, eyes closing as he let out a deep breath. It was clear he was having difficulty reconciling something, matter that only Tsuki and maybe Fuyuko could help him reconcile - and even then it may be above their experiences.
"...I don't get it," came a strained, conflicted reply. "My sister died over a lie, yet the Heavens judged Kakita Ichiro correct." He looked to the two Crane, the question that followed both theological and legal in nature. "How? How can the Heavens say 'yes, this man is being wronged over a blood feud' when the blood feud didn't exist to begin with? And who am I to say 'No, the Heavens are wrong' and that his prosecutors still have their honor?"

Ichiro ground his teeth obviously looking upset by the conversation. No one knew his history with the Rokugan legal system and his misgivings with it. This was not his meeting and he would not interrupt it over a personal matter.

Fuyuko takes a deep breath. "A duel...assumes certain matters. For example, it may have been proved by the heavens that Kakita Ichiro may be innocent of the Crime. We may need to prove that the man we seek to apprehend is not Kakita Ichiro and has not been for some time. In addition, it is possible for forces without honor to...interfere with the heavens. I have faith in you Mirumoto Noboru. That whatever fight this letter provokes, you will win it. And restore the honor to the men and women who died in the pursuit of the law."

Tsuki offered a rather neutral look to the man. "Two monks stand before a well, it's water free to drink. They look to each other and ask the other what it tastes like," She answered him.
"Why ask me when you can meditate on it yourself?" She asked in an all to rhetorical manner. That was where he was likely to find his answer, after all.

Noboru sighs; neither one of them really got what he was trying to ask and it was probably for the best he not push the matter. But something about Tsuki's reply struck a nerve with him.
"Are we not supposed to go to priests and monks about questions of theology? There are places to find wisdom beyond rice cakes, after all."
With that he visibly rolled his eyes at the Kakita before bowing to Fuyuko. "I'm sorry, sensei, but it's pointless for me to face him if it will not restore the honor of Kitsuki Shun and Mirumoto Hikari. There's no one I wish to see pay for their actions more than Kakita Ichiro, but isn't just about vengeance no matter how personal the matter is. Their honor and the honor of my clan was stained by their duel. He demanded the duel because he claimed we persecuted him over the blood feud and over our jealousy of your clans techniques while insulting the Niten as the method of thugs and murderers and Kitsuki's method as the tool of an incompetent fool who is incapable of understanding simple tenets such as Honesty."
His gaze drew darker however as the topic continued, Noboru adding, "But when I do face him, you won't have to worry about him fleeing because either I will have ended him or my parents will be mourning their only son."
