"Yes, the Rikugunshokan is the General Officer of an Army."
He nodded and handed Ryuha a green origami kabuto as well.
"So, we have seven ranks within the military. Now, there are OTHER ranks - but the most basic and fundamental are the seven you all have identified."
Kojima placed his box on his desk and approached his dry erase board. He wrote the seven ranks in descending order:
Hohei.
Nikutai.
Gunso.
Chui.
Taisa.
Shireikan.
Rikugunshokan.
"Now," Kojima said, turning to the class. "You will notice that six of you have an origami helmet, two of each a different color. Do you know why? This is because each of these ranks can be assigned to a level of planning. First and foremost, we have the Nikutai and Gunso - the lowest levels of leadership within a standard Army structure. We are going to call this the tactical level. Next is the Chui and Taisa who work on the operational level. Lastly, we have the Shireikan and Rikugunshokan who work on the strategic level. Each rank plays a vital role, from the bottom up to the top, in order to fulfill the end state from their superiors. Whether you serve your family daimyo, a clan champion, the Emerald Champion, Shogun - or even the Emperor himself - you are a piece of the greater whole."
Kojima drew a red circle around the first two ranks (Nikutai and Gunso); a blue circle around the second two ranks; and a green circle around the last two ranks. This aligned with the origami helmets in some of his student's hands.
"Now, practical application time. Everyone, come to the front of the class and gather around."
Kojima pulled out a map from his desk and unfolded it several times, laying it out - covering the entirety of his desk.
On close inspection, it was a map of the school grounds.
"Imagine this is a castle... And Mirumoto Ryuha-san here is the Rikugunshokan. Put on your helmet, Mirumoto-san."
He grinned at his students, looking to the others. "All of you, put on your helmets if you have one."
"And Akodo Izumi-san is your Shireikan. You know that you are carrying out the will of your superior, and let's say that's me. Your orders were to defeat the rival school, Rokugan High School. You have an army at your disposal. The question becomes how do you use your army to siege and capture Rokugan High School, Mirumoto-san? Akodo-san?"
