His relief was obvious as he nodded to the praise and smiled.
"Yes, it was indeed a bad start, Hime-chan, but I have already a solution to fix that."
He reached into the pocket of his hoodie and pulled a small black box.
"This is for you." He said as he offered it to her.

"Oh?" A frown appears. "Thanks, I guess? Mind if we skip the refusal rigmarole?"
Ok, Mochi must admit: she's curious as she opens the box...

He was content that she suggested ignoring the ceremonial refusals. He never liked all that traditional back and forth.
"Of course, who cares about these nonsense."
He smiled and nodded at her. Inside the box was a chipset.
"I will not try explaining, you know better than me what it does."
He looked at her waiting to see her reaction.

"Oh!" She carefully picks up the chips and checks them out. "These..." A frown. "I could use these!"
A smile appears, and for once not mocking, superior or disdainful.
"Thanks, man. This is golden. Seriously. After the game I'll show you my baby. There is still plenty to work on. I would appreciate the help. Especially in coding the OS. I want the interface to pilot it to be like Build Fighter! Could you do that?
That would be awesome!"

He probably looked like a fool. He felt blissful and was probably staring at her in an inappropriate way.
"Hime-chan, for you I would do anything." He replied.
"Do you have the kernel? I think we might need to spend tomorrow some time at the computer lab. If only to tune the controls on your movement."

Being looked at in a worshipful way is, in fact, not deemed an 'inappropriate way' by Mochihime.
"The kernel of Build Fighter? I wish! No, we'll have to reverse-engineer it. Anyway, on the other hand the interface is what we need, and that will be the easy part to code. For the rest it would be more efficient to start from scratch.
Anyway, the actual frame is built. You'll see, but we need an engine, the OS, weapons and armor. We should probably get a few more people on board. Wasn't there a Kaiu in Biology class?"

He was already thinking about potential sites where he could find open source kernels to use as a staring point, not that he stopped starring at her.
"I will spend the night researching that. I will have something by tomorrow morning." He cocked his head when asked about the Kaiu.
"That was first time I saw him. He did not pass along as something special. I know a Kuni, who might be interested. We talked about hydroponics the other day. She probably knows a thing or two engineering wise."

"Yeah, I know. Could be a bushi, I'm kinda typecasting here. Was that Kuni also in the biology class? Anyway, thanks for helping out. The gift is nice!"
Mochi holds up her hand as the announcer steps up and with the necessary fanfare the match begins. The Otomo girl is nice enough to provide a running commentary on the match, albeit she gets very technical and liberally uses terms unknown outside of the Build Fighter game circles...
(Time Jump to a visit a non-descript warehouse near school where Storm King, her mecha baby is being built?)

[Sounds good.]
Whatever that thing was, it has been going great, better than a geek with low self-esteem could have hoped for. She wanted to show him something. That something had a name and seemed to be important to her. She seemed to make a big deal about letting him work on it. Yoruga couldn't care less about anything, but yeah, he liked her and she was one of the few people he could actually communicate with. Mind you, he liked even her bitchy I know all attitude, despite both knowing that she was not that much smarter than him.
As the got out of the metro and headed to the warehouse she had her baby stored, he offered her his hand, shyly.

Mochihime stops as the Bayushi boy offered his hand and she considers it. She holds up a finger, indicating him to wait and takes out two scrolls. A few muttered prayers later and it's like her mind is on fire, her cognitive capabilities enhanced beyond mortal limits.
Ok, let's consider. He is not stupid. He is familiar. Her relationship advise to him in regard to partner choice obviously applies to herself as well. Reciprocity of support in primary relations is vital for the well-being of those involved. Obviously both on the substantive and operational level the necessary ingredients for said reciprocity is empirically proven in this particular pairing. Of course, the view that love is tied to the exchange of rewards is crass, and even those who believe exchange principles can be usefully applied to a wide variety of situations and relationships sometimes shy away from applying them to close relationships.
This is craven, however. All relationships are in essence, undeniably, transactional in nature. It is intrinsic, and furthermore, the exchanges can, and will, most certainly run into the abstract. In that regard this match is not unwelcome. It is not one based in pure hormonal need and want, or some form of unhealthy emotional dependency. Well, not on her side anyway. In layman's terms: both she and Yoruga-san can actually support each other's projects and dreams.
Hmm.
Mochihime takes his hand.
An eyebrow goes up. Just one thing.
"Get another mask. This tiger skull thing isn't working for you..."
