"Oh... uh...," Yoshi falters in answering the old man, distracted for a moment by the touch of Momiko's hand upon his, "...no, nothing else, thank you." He gives the man his debit card, imagining a lot of cheap ramen meals in his future until the next time his parents put money into his account, but satisfied that he had kept a promise to provide the best incense possible. Having also caught Momiko's odd look, he too scrutinizes his hand to see if there was something wrong with it that had gone hitherto unnoticed by him.
"Um...," he begins, confused to find nothing odd about the hand, "...where to next, Asahina-sama? Or were you still going to get some of your own here too?" The shopkeeper returns with Yoshi's card and the box, the latter of which was carefully wrapped up in a plastic bag.

She nodded, looking into one of the cases with her hands behind her back as he walked up to her, "I may as well, as long as I'm here. It's just for myself, so I don't need anything special. But splurging on something not massed produced could be nice regardless."

"What else do you enjoy doing, besides shopping?" Yoshi says, making a stab at small talk now that his transaction was completed. He wasn't entirely sure if Momiko was actually enjoying herself now, or if her frenetic pace was just the young Crane's default.

"Oh, you know; Crane stuff. Gardening and books and philosophy," she replied absent-mindedly as she looked through one of the less expensive cases and pointed a plain wooden box out to the shop owner. It wasn't exactly a lie, what she said... more of practiced avoidance. After all, those were all true, from a certain point of view.
"What about yourself, Tamori-san?"

"I like to read too," he answers, following along behind Momoko as she shops. "I read all sorts of things, really, but my favorite is history; either factual accounts or historical fiction."

...was she supposed to say what she liked reading to then? Crap. That just would not do. Still, she did not want to lie to the nice boy. Time for advanced Crane conversation technique... change the subject!
As the man running the store gave Momiko her box and receipt, she motioned for Yoshi to follow. "Ah... Hmm... which do you prefer, Tamori-san; Agarwood, or sandalwood? I know you got one and I got the other, but you DID say those were for someone else."
She led him out of the shop, a bell on the door chiming pleasantly as it was opened.

"I think I prefer sandalwood, like you," Yoshi tells her, "but I wanted to get the very best. Though, it's not just for someone else; I got it to share." The young Dragon was starting to pick up on Momiko's evasiveness, after several explicit attempt to get to know her better. However, he all too easily convinces himself that her being closed off was somehow his fault.
"It's... um... ok if you don't want me to come along for the rest of your errands," he finds himself offering, hoping the gesture of leaving her alone will somehow make amends for whatever he'd done wrong to make her so guarded.

Part of her cheered... but most of her mind seemed to want the company. Something that felt odd.
"No no... I mean... you know... I'm not your mother or anything, so you can do what you want. But it's not like I'd mind the company, you know. If you happened to have nothing better to do. Or something."
'...oh my kami, am I turning into one of THOSE comic book characters??' she thought with dread inwardly in the maelstrom of confusion. Outwardly, she did perhaps seem a little... wooden, in the way she was walking.

"I... can't think of anything better to do right now than spend time with you, Asahina-sama," Yoshi tells her, complimenting her sincerely. Even if she wasn't being forthcoming, he didn't hold it against her, only against himself, and accompanying her was much better than being alone. With some relief, he adds, "I'm glad you don't mind the company."

Momiko could neither stop nor recognize the slight sigh of relief she gave at his answer, "Ehhhh... Well, I've said it before; You seem like a good person, Tamori-san. I'm comfortable around you, and I enjoy our talks. If I seem at all uncomfortable, it's only because I'm not very used to interacting with people like you."
No, if it wasn't mother's friends, then normally it was the kids at the store, criminals, or servants. Certainly not fellow teenage samurai.
