The Kaiu family knew full well about the imperial Edicts on mechs, technology, and really any progress in general. so much work on reversed engineered gaijin technology was canceled. lost to the world of hypotheticals and research papers, never to see true use because of superstition and luddite thinking. it pissed off Yoshi, but he wasnt about to show it.
"gotcha. so a Bipedal all-terrain platform designed for agricultural industries...." he said with a laugh. "also I like 'striders'. they where refered to as 'power lifters' in my research but that's waaay~ too utilitarian. Striders really does capture the imagination in ways only a nerd can." he said with a smirk lifting his legs onto the desk and taking a drink.
"I want to see it."

"Of course you do, of course you do..."
Mochihime grins cockily and takes out her phone. A few button-presses later she slides it over to him. There's a photo of a half-built mecha, no strider. The frame is all there, as well as the actuators, clearly visible due to the lack of armor. Well, except for one arm. It should be able to move, if it had the piloting software they had just been discussing. It also lacks weapons. The size is difficult to judge on a photo, but it certainly doesn't look small.
"This is 'Storm King', first of it's kind. So, you're in or out?"

Yoshi smirked, looking zooming in on the parts. it was hard to tell from a photo but a lot like the gaijin mech blueprint hes seen about

"Excellent! Well, current goals are getting an operating system up and running, so we can actually pilot 'Storm King'. As I said, I want the graphical interface to look like 'Build Fighter'. It's familiar, and well, it works.
In the project folder you can see all the API's and objects which I've already build. I'm working through a car's self-driving software, but of course, instead of a car, I memory hacked it to control the Strider. Mapping that must have been the three most boring weeks in my life, those actuators and their control chips are from Medinaat Al-Salaam, and so was the documentation, so bloody useless and figuring it out was mostly trial and error.
Anyway, it works in the simulations, but still needs a life test, obviously. I fully expect we need to tweak those parameters. I bought a bunch of life-capture images from humans to figure out how to walk, run, keep your balance and all that stuff, and I tried to compensate for 'Storm King' having a different mass and center of gravity, but yeah, that first life-test will be challenging. Now, as you can see in the picture, there's two seats: pilot and co-pilot, so our operating system can focus on just the piloting. Weapons, navigation and all that jazz can go to the co-pilot.
I can run you two through the work so far, and what I have planned in my program analysis so we can divide the work. Yoruga-san? You coming to 'Storm King' later? Why don't you bring Yoshi-san along!"

He frowned in disappointment.
"I thought that we would be spending time together." He whispered to her behind his hand, not that he wouldn't do whatever she wanted.
"Yeah, I will, if he is not busy. Kaiu-san, can you join me in the greenhouse 2 during class 3?"

Yoshi mearly smiled. though he had no idea what the scorpion said to his significant other, he could practically smell the disappointment in the air. hoping for a date night, perhaps? no interest in having a third wheel?
"Sure! I'm free around that time. I might even have some reasearch on neural evolutionary networks that might be of use to you guys...moving forward of course" he said, playing it cool, down playing the clear wedge he was pressing into their relationship

Mochihime gets out a scroll from her case and intones a quick prayer. For an instant it's as if her eyes light up and she sighs happily.
"Mind if I juice you up too, Kaiu-san?"
