Her laptop was in the background, a video about how to prepare cold brew coffee playing on a loop. A few riceballs as snacks. The powder blue fan spread out and displayed with pride. And, of course, the small number of black knickknacks and decor she acquired on her earlier trip to the shopping district. These things were her Present and, she hoped, small signs of her Future. What was missing was the Past. The Past. On some days, some her worst and some her best, Hisui thought her past defined her. Her memories and the things she associated with them were vivid, powerful, emotional. They stirred things in her that could consume her every thought. She knew most others didn't feel this way, except in those most sensitive of recollections. And instinct told her the news she was about to give her girlfriend was among the most sensitive she could possibly bring up. Still, she'd delayed it long enough --- too long, possibly --- by waiting. Doji Fuyuko deserved to know, no matter the consequences. Sometimes, the past had to be confronted.

Fuyuko steps into the room after a day of teaching filled with odds and ends, twists and turns and other sort of temporal nonsense. She takes off her eye-patch and smiles as she looks around at the new display. "Hissy-Chan! I love it. It's beautiful. Thank you." flouncing over to her lover to give her a light kiss.

Hisui returns it. But she's careful not to get too greedy. It was tempting, holding on longer than required, as if it would be the last. But she resolves not to despair. She motions for Fuyuko to sit down. A little relaxation before the stress of the news seemed like a good idea. Even broaching the topic of an omen involving a Fortune seemed like a less dangerous way.
"I've been watching videos on how to make that coffee you like so much," she says as she stands up. "I have some over there, in fact. I...haven't tasted it yet, though."
"And I'm glad you like it. Walking around in the shopping district in the rain was not a pleasant experience."

Fuyuko sighs. "Ah well, I do thank you for doing so. The rain was not kind today, I do wish it would leave us be finally." she says gently. "I would like to make some for the both of us. Do you enjoy sugar in yours?"

"Just a little. It may surprise you to know I don't have much of a sweet tooth, much to my son's frustration."
She smiles. Brazenly, she washes away the sigh and a kiss. Not on the lips or cheek or forehead. On a new, untested battlefield. The back of Fuyuko's hand.

Fuyu feels the kiss on her hand and cocks her head a moment before she giggles a silly little giggle. "Oh! Well that was nice. And it's alright. I like it bitter sometimes." She says as she goes to poor the coffee. "How was the day. Any news?"

"Actually, there is." A pause as she takes a seat. "First, I want to apologize for not telling you this sooner. Because I found out about it yesterday, over lunch. I...I didn't want to tell you because it might disrupt your classes."
A deep breath, a hand reaching out to be held.
"The Salty Goblin is at the bottom of the lake."

Fuyuko blinks...then again. Her hand goes to her heart a second. "That's impossible. She loved that boat. She loved it more then almost anything. How could she let the..." her face pales again and she makes a small..strangled noise. For all her cute cooing confused noises, the sound she makes when she is in pain, genuine pain. The sort that could not hide behind her masochism is heart wrenching. "I ...I broke her. Didn't I." she says with soft horror. "She gave up on defending it. Sweet Kami was she on it when it sank?"

Hisui is quick to react. She holds the Crane close, pulling her into a comforting but unyielding embrace. She forgets Courtesy for a moment and holds her girlfriend --- this woman she would dare call her wife --- as tightly as she could. Her strength was superior, and she would not release Fuyuko if she tried to struggle. She would would make the Crane listen if she had to.
"She's alright. She's alright," she says, soft but insistent. "Yoko-chan...Yoko-chan met with her son. Her son. She told me he was here, a student. Looking for his mother's ship."
"She's alive, Fuyuko. But the ship...the Salty Goblin...we're trying to raise it."

"Her son? I..I alright. Alright. She has a son. She has a family. She recovered. It was just the ship. It was only the ship." she mutters to herself quickly, reassuring herself. "I thought I killed her Hisui. Not an honorable death. Not the kind I do. I was so scared I killed her soul. I tried to be courteous. To be kind, but, I don't think she understood. Why I chose duty over her."
