Alright. That was comforting. A part of their life. That meant long-term, and Uetani didn't seem the sort to carry on intimate relations with her adoptive mother, her mother's lover, her mother's lover's children, and her mother's lover's sort-of little sister.
Convinced now that there was never any intimate intent, she breathes easier.
"I'm going to need a bigger house."

She laughs a little at that "I have a place in Tsuma. I intend to take Fuyu-sensei out there sometime"

"Oh?" she asks, without a trace of suspicion. She trusts Fuyuko. Herself…sometimes less so.

"It has... A lot of things from my past in it. I wish to show her most, the sculpture that my sister was working on when she died"

She nods. "If you think it important, then it will be a good trip."

"I think it will be... I think there is a key to understanding the way I am in there"
She sighs thinking of it
"It is unfinished. They said that she had not even passed her gempukku"

She keeps silent, out of respect for the loss. She lets it linger, long enough perhaps for Uetani to mourn a little bit. And also to remember.
"What was Kasumi like?"

"We were always close. You know how twins are, I am sure. I was quiet and dour though. Perhaps afraid of the world around me. She would push me on to fight my fears, make me do things that I shrank away from. I would urge her caution and pull her back from the brink.
That was how it went, until we went to different schools. We still saw each other, but there was not as much time. I threw myself into training, and she did too. Without me to temper her... Maybe she tried to hard. She saught perfection in everything, as a Kakita must..."

She nods in understanding. She'd seen Akiha and Shiki's closeness, of course. More than that, she saw how her children kept each other from distancing themselves from the world. She couldn't understand the specifics, but she saw that kind of connection Uetani spoke of.
"Uetani-san, she needs you still," she says at last. "To temper her excesses and yours. Perhaps you are blessed with this rarest of chances. To fill the hunger of one of the hungry dead."

"Perhaps so. But the only choices I see are to deny her, or to continue to try and sate her. Neither holds much appeal in truth"
