She laughs, and then apologizes
"Sorry, sorry, I only laugh because I think I have been, with Mako. Aiko-sensei told me the password to get a private room so that I could go on dates without getting spotted. Did you know she used to work there?"

Hinata looked hurt by the laughter, and more than a little angry, but relaxed once Priya apologized and explained. Okay, she was not mocking you, calm down Hinata.
"Aiko-sensei worked at the maid cafe?" she responded, sounding surprised.
"I...suppose that makes a certain about of sense, actually. She was there on my first day of work. She offered me some advice when she noticed I was nervous."
She also helped with a certain Otomo, Hinata recalled, but she was not going to mention that.

"Yeah, she is good with that sort of thing." she smiles. She doesn't mention Aiko helping her with the same Otomo either
"A few people have compared me to her actually, when she was our age. She is one of them... I don't know. She is one of the greatest heroes of our age. I am just... Me"

Hinata smiled reassuringly, and leaned forward slightly.
"Well, has it occurred to you that she may have thought much the same thing when she was our age? Nobody can read the future. Prophets and sages may try, and they may sometimes be correct, but fate is also ever in motion. What appears to be true of the future may change with only a single action today."
Hinata leaned back and brushed some of her hair away from her face.
"We are teenagers, we cannot give up on our future already, neh?"

"Oh heck. I do not intend to" she smiles at the girl playing with her hair, and jumps up for a second, coming back with more coffee
"I just... i don't know if I can ever do the things she did. I am not gonna be a thunder, or an Empress. I don't know what I am going to be... It is a bit disconcerting really"

Hinata leaned forward and clasped her hands together at the fingers, thinking. It was not likely anyone going to school here would be a legend nearly on par with one of the Thunders. But was that a bad thing? Legends were forged in the fires of turmoil. If the Empire had no need of legends, it may actually be a good thing.
"There is no need to become a legend to be a hero, Priya-san" she said after a while.
"Indeed, I would hope legends are not needed for a long time to come."

She smiles and shrugs "You are right of course. There is no need to be in the history books to be something worth while. I do not need to be a thunder to be happy. I just need to be... something. Something more that the sad path laid out for me as my sisters were."
She sips her coffee maybe a little sadly, the wind taken out of her for the first time in this conversation
"I need to be my own woman."

Hinata smiled reassuringly and put a hand down on the table, palm up in case Priya wanted to hold it. Most samurai might be averse to such physicality outside of those they were romantic with, but she was a Crab, she was no stranger to physical affection among friends. If her read on Priya were correct all, she wagered she would know that as well.
"And what would that entail? Who is the Ichiro Priya you envision?"

She clasps her friends hand, holds it tight
"I... I don't know. Sometimes I think I might like to replace Aiko here, teaching the sword, teaching gym. Sometimes I want to be a hero on the front lines, at the wall or wherever the Empire might send me. Sometimes I stand over Mako in court, glaring at anyone that would threaten her. I am always with her, she is the one constant... But the other things... I don't know if they are what other people want for me, or if I want it for myself"

Hinata hummed in thought, then nodded. Her expression transformed into one of gentle concern.
"Very well. I suppose I must ask you a question that may be difficult, but...in your mind, I want you to try and remove the constant. Do not let the idea of that hurt you, this is just a thought experiment. If Mako was not a constant factor in all these scenarios, would each still bring you enjoyment? If so, which one brings you the most joy when you think about it? Close your eyes and take your time."
