He doesn't mind the pat. Or the compliment. He doesn't seem to understand what the statement could imply, or isn't thinking too hard on it. As far as Kobushi's mind is concerned, it's just a compliment. And he was never good at receiving them.
"Thank you," he says. "You know, you're the second person in this school to say that about me. If it happens a third time, I'll start thinking it's true."

Rodrigo blinked in confusion. Was this some sort of cultural misunderstanding? How did people flirt here? ...seems he was just going to have to be direct with the boy.
"It, ah, it's normal if they're flirting with each-other, Daidoji-san" he said, giving Kobushi a meaningful look.
"If you're uncomfortable with it I'll stop though."

A pause. A long one.
"Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't realize," he answers, rather sheepishly. "Don't worry; it's not just you. I'm slow about that with everybody."
Another pause as he thinks about things, considers.
"Does Horiuchi-san approve of you going around flirting with other people?" he asks, more concerned than angry.

He nodded, making a waving gesture with his hand.
"I wouldn't cheat on anyone. We agreed to an open relationship. She's dating a Scorpion and an Otomo on the side, so."
He shrugged.
"I'm not upset about it, neither is she. We still like each-other."

"Ah, good. Good that you understand each other."
He pauses, takes a moment. Daidoji Kobushi was not prone to looking at people and judging their appearance. It was difficult for him and required a bit more thought than he was used to. Still, the assessment process of his mind wasn't that different for men and women. After taking the time to consider it, he finally comes to a conclusion.
"Now that I've thought about it, you're a handsome devil yourself."

Rodrigo chuckled and winked at Kobushi.
"Oh, I know. Especially the devil part, if some of what you guys believe is true, eh?"
He put an arm around Kobushi's shoulders.
"I'm happy you're comfortable with it, though. Never know what answer you're gonna get."

He laughs.
"I'll be honest, I don't really think of people that way at the start." He looks at his hand, suddenly wishing he had a cup in it or something so he could take a drink to clear his mind. "I need to stop and actually take a good look at someone to realize the obvious."
"But as long as no one's getting hurt, it's not going to be a problem, I think."

Rodrigo grinned slyly.
"Oh, don't worry, I'm gentle when I want to be."
Rodrigo went in for a quick kiss, though he'd back off if Kobushi didn't want it.
