"Well, they had to. I can't do anything more complicated than making tea!" she admits, laughing at her own culinary ineptitude. "And that doesn't sound so bad, playing in dikes. I mean, you turned out pretty well. Still the strongest person I know, too."
A pause.
"Just how strong are you? I don't think I've ever seen you have trouble lifting anything."

"I dunno? I mean, not as strong as Ichiro Mitsu-sensei, I know that at least. And I tried carrying Tomiko-chan's motorcycle up a hill once and that was a bit much. At least with her sitting on it."

"I don't think anyone is as strong as him. But from what I've heard, his son tries very hard."
A pause, realizing that she'd never met this Tomiko. However, she had heard of the Utaku biker that had been one of the great loves of Akane's past.
"What did happen to her, anyway?"

"To... Tomi? I wish I knew."
Akane gives a slight shrug, "Between second and third year here I went back to Lion lands for family business, but at a certain point while I was there her phone line was disconnected. I thought maybe she'd forgotten to pay her bill, but when I came back to Toshi Ranbo her apartment was vacant and the post office had no forwarding address. I tried asking the Unicorn Embassy here in the city, but all they knew is she'd been involved in a Magistrate investigation, and she had left the city a month ago. I... wonder sometimes if she didn't get in trouble for me living with her, her being a teacher and me being a student."

Hisui reaches out a hand. Akane is free to take it for the comforting gesture that it is.
"I still have contacts back home in Shiro Utaku Shojo, a few former students who owe me a favor or two. And Fuyu-chan is a Magistrate. It'd be a small favor to ask them to look out for someone fitting her description," she offers.

Akane chuckles lightly, a slightly bitter sound, but she does take the offered hand, "Thank you... though at this point I imagine that there was something bigger going on. Otherwise..."
A sigh, "And anyways, who knows what she looks like now? It's been twenty-four years; Any number of things could have happened to her."

"True. Still, I thought I'd offer. You never know."
She smiles, giving Akane's hand a gentle squeeze.
"I mean, it's not like I don't have them looking out for a certain heart-breaking fox woman. For closure's sake."

"That makes sense. And thank you. I usually don't let myself get down on things like this, but that's one of those regrets that feels like I actually did something wrong."

"No trouble at all. What are friends for?" she asks, though it's clear she isn't expecting an answer. "And for what it's worth, I don't think you did something wrong. From what you've told me about her, I think she would have told you if you did."
She then uses the opening to snatch a bit of tender rib from Akane's plate.

Akane chuckles and shakes her head, "If anyone can get away with stealing food from my plate, you definitely are one of them."
------
She gets back to her food, and is soon finished with her plate, "Phew. Even paying for only one trip, I think I did myself proud."
