"I've been trying. Kami knows I've been trying, but..." He let out a frustrated sigh, "I just can't let go. The only two people I've even come close to letting go for are Kakita Uetani-san and Doji Hoshiko-san... and the latter is why I'm in the dog house with the former."
Noboru just looked away for the moment, head shaking slowly. "And I'm trying to keep my word to Mirumoto Aiko-sensei, but it's been so..." Another sigh as his face contorts with a bit of the anger he displayed a few moments ago. "It's been so infuriatingly hard."

She freezes, just for a second, at the mention of the name Kakita Uetani. She knew the girl had appetites that had a broader range than Fuyuko's, though she hadn't considered the possibility that it might have had a destructive effect on others. It alarmed her, and was certainly something to think about. She made a mental note to ask Fuyuko about this later.
"Yes. You may not believe me, but I know how hard it is," she admits, not looking away this time. She acknowledges the anger, but does not chide it. "If it helps, I am willing to simply sit and listen. Or spar, if you think that will help with the rage."
"As for the matter with Doji Hoshiko-san...the only advice I have on that front is to apologize and then let her sort her feelings out. Pressing too soon only worsens the wound."
Of course, at this point, Hisui does not know that the Doji has already filed for a transfer.

Noboru nods understandingly, also unaware of his ex-girlfriend's intentions to transfer.
"People have listened and it's only done so much. The fires..." He sighs a bit then looks away, the pit of his stomach roiling as the anger starts to build again, the fires of vengeance burning in his eyes. "Deep down, I want to watch the entire Crane Clan burn in Jigoku. For not returning Mirumoto Okoro's daisho. For Kakita Ichiro being free. For people like Kakita Ibu who use their position to bully others. For what they did to my sister..."

"And what of the Crane who lost family and friends to the Dragon? What of their pain and their losses?" she asks, taking the risk of prodding the young man's pain. A huge risk, but she is concerned. For many reasons. "You cannot demand justice for your sister and ignore justice for a Kakita who fell to Mirumoto steel over a feud neither one wanted. To do so is hypocrisy."
"And you do not strike me as a hypocrite. Angry, justifiably so, but not a hypocrite."

"I want to see them all burn for what they did," he offered coolly. "They manipulated a blood feud, real or not, to heap shame upon my sister with that duel. That duel proclaimed Heaven's judgment upon her and the Dragon Clan, proclaimed we were jealous of the Kakita and that my sister had no honor. It proclaimed she and her superior weren't seeking justice against a crirminal, but instead were acting on the blood feud themselves."
He closed his eyes, breathing deeply as he sought to calm that anger. "Is it hypocrisy to see my own sister's honor restored? To want the entire clan responsible for her shame to pay?"

"And are the Dragon blameless?" she asks, still needling him on. "Have no Dragon manipulated this feud? Were the Mirumoto only defending themselves? I don't know any names, nor do I have any personal connection to anyone involved in this feud. But even I know that there must be someone who feels the exact same way you do about the Dragon. Because it takes two sides to carry a feud. Blood on two sets of hands."
"If you're going to think like this, don't hide behind platitudes of restoring Honor, Mirumoto-san. Because doing so spits upon her memory and her sacrifice, and you know it. We both know what you want is revenge."

"What I want is vengeance. They are different concepts, sensei. As for your question, I honestly don't know. I don't even know what Mirumoto Okoro's aims were in all of this began, only that he killed five Kakita before his own life was claimed and his daisho has yet to be returned."

"I'm aware." She doesn't voice out that she thinks the boy no longer sees where he sides on the distinction. That his anger has blinded him, to an extent, to what he's doing. She wonders if he'd see that, even if it's pointed out. "Then don't you owe it to your sister to find out what those aims were? Why five Kakita had to die? Kakita who may have been as blameless in all this as your sister was? That somewhere out there is a Kakita who is just as justified as you are in demanding vengeance upon the Dragon? And that both of you deserve to have vengeance brought down upon the true cause of this madness, whoever it might be?"
"The problem with believing with an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is that everyone ends up blind and toothless, Mirumoto-san. At some point, we must remember Compassion and forgive, even if we never truly forget."

"And some things can never be forgiven," came a heated reply as Noboru got up from his seat.
"The only thing I owe to my sister is to see her honor restored, to discover what happened to the evidence that went missing so that Kakita Ichiro can be brought to justice, and then to find the guilty parties responsible for instigating this blood feud so that my sister's soul will know peace mine never will."

She sighs. She suspected from the onset that this would be difficult, if not impossible. But she had to try.
"That is your choice," she says as he stands up. "Do be careful in handling the consequences of it, Mirumoto-san."
