Hisui had spent the first few classes covering the basics. The biological mechanics, the vocal exercises. The foundation had been laid down, but she didn't want to have them singing anything complicated yet. She picked out something simpler, a fairly recent folk song that would be simple enough for the beginners like Gyushi Kogeki, but also a refresher for the more experienced ones like Yasuki Tsubasa. She had a couple of plans in mind, in case the song proved too simple. She had the song recorded, so it would be easier to follow along and she could concentrate on correcting the pitch. Good thing she had friends in the recording industry to provide the best quality possible. She sits down by the window and has the song playing as she waits for any students to enter. Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
In fields, mountains and villages
As far as the eye can see.
Is it mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the morning sun.
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Flowers in full bloom.
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Across the spring sky,
As far as the eye can see.
Is it mist, or clouds?
Fragrant in the air.
Come now, come now,
Let's go and see them!

Noboru sat in the back of the class already, trying to make sure he was out of sight of anyone who would begrudge him after they'd learned of Doji Hoshiko's transfer. He'd learned about it from her after school the previous day and while it certainly hurt him to feel like he was partially responsible for it there was a new glimmer of hope in his eyes that hadn't been there the day before. Which, of course, made things more awkward given everything else he was going through and experiencing. At hearing the song he began to strum along with his guitar, trying to learn it by ear.

Tsubasa wandered into class after standing outside the door to listen to Hisui since once more, enjoying the melody for a few moments before striding into class. At the sight of Noboru she hurried over, leaning over his desk with a melancholy smile on her face.
"I heard about Hoshi-nyan, I'm sorry Mirumoto-san. I hope you're doing okay? If you ever wanna talk I'm around, I know how hard it can be to lose a band mate and a friend and a lover."

Noboru looked up at Tsubasa as she acknowledged his situation, a bit of a mixed gaze on his features. He starts to say something on the matter then bows his head, "Arigatou, Yasuki-san. I haven't given up hope yet, but ultimately it's up to the Fortunes as to if we can work things out or not."

Tsubasa reached forward to lightly squeeze him on the shoulder, continuing that smile.
"Well if you need anything, I'll be around... but i'm going to take my seat now okay?"
She pulls away then, sitting in her usual seat while smiling at Hisui.

Seeing that the usual grace period had passed, Hisui resigns herself to having a small class for today. She turns to the two present and smiles.
"I trust the two of you have been listening to the song. If you're not familiar with it, it's a children's folksong," she says as she stops the recording. "It also happens to be one of a very few songs that can be adjusted easily to almost any key, and covers most of the vocal aspects of a performance. For a beginner, it's good to test any progress made. For someone with more experience, it helps them remember the basics."
"I'm going to play the song one more time, so you can familiarize yourself with all the details. After that, I'm going to ask each of you to sing it. Use whatever note comes naturally to your voice when you do."
And then she has the song play again.

Noboru looks over to Hisui as the song completes, having been the first to be asked to sing it. As would be expected of someone who's spent their life playing guitar, he belts out a concert E. It's in-tune, if only barely, attempting to sing along with the song despite his discomfort of performing like this in front of others.

Hisui nods. "You're getting better, Mirumoto-san. Incremental improvement is better than none at all. Yasuki-san, if you'd care to try next?"

Tsubasas mind was obviously in a different place as she sang Hisuis song. Her voice warbles slightly and while she was definitely better than Noboru she was nowhere up to her own standards.

Odd, that. Tsubasa was usually a better singer than that, Hisui knew. She'd heard the girl sing and she could recognize skill when she heard it.
"Are you distracted, Yasuki-san?"
