This piece of the land was a scar. That was a far more appropriate means to describe it, rather than a clearing. Where as the forest up until this point has been lush and verdant, this pock is grey and lifeless. The plant life was dead, there was only brown dirt. The only thing that spotted the earth were small craters, the remains of a battle.
Wooden pieces of the shrine still lay about as well, splintered and broken years ago. Pieces of ribbon that were used to hang paper wards could be found about as well, the paper long having vanished via time and weather.
Most notable of all, however, was the haft of a great bisento, its blade buried in the earth. The polearm seemed to reach out towards the sky defiantly, proudly. Like a grave. Beside the old weapon was a empty, sun-kissed sake bottle.

Hinata looked around the area, a deep frown etched on her face. This was concerning, to say the least. No living thing could be seen residing in this place. Indeed, the surrounding forest seemed to be avoiding it. Something serious must have done this. It was not easy to destroy an area so utterly that life could not bounce back within it. She would know. Her family had done it millennia ago. To confirm her suspicions, Hinata stepped onto the dead ground and laid a hand upon it, reaching out to sense the kami. If this was anything like what had created the Kuni wastes, she would receive no answer. (( Summoning 25 ))

The kami were in fact here.
(OOC: Did you mean to Commune or Summon?)

The earth spoke to Hinata as terse as ever.
Yeah? What is it?

A response, then. That was good. It assuaged the worst of her fears.
"I was just wondering if you were all okay, is all. With the state of this place, well...I thought you kami may have been harmed."
She paused for a few moments.
"...I do not suppose you could tell me what did this?"

"Huh... Guess the rumors were true..." Koshiro looks around the area as Hinata communes with the kami. He picks up a nearby piece of splintered wood. "Yeah, looks like there really might've been a shrine here before. Or at least a wooden structure of sorts." He glances around a bit. "Wonder if it's true that it's haunted here..."

Nade gasped at the sight before her, the area much different than she had pictured in her mind. The bento boxes were placed delicately on the ground as she darted over to the most interesting part of the scene, the bisento.
Her fingers roamed slowly over the haft, tracing it for a long moment before kneeling down to poke at the sake bottle to see how old that was.
"This is fantastic! well not fantastic-fantastic but fantastic in that there's so much to discover and explore and investigate. Everyone pick something and we'll compare notes."

Kobushi is a little less than excited. The whole thing felt wrong to him, something clawed at his thoughts to warn him. He clenches his fists, his primary weapons, and hovers protectively near his friends. Otherwise, he keeps his focus on the structure as if expecting something to burst out from within.

A powerful gaki spirit was released from its shrine and did this, they answered Hinata.
If Nade had to guess on the age of the sake bottle, it was fairly old - at least ten years or more, still covered in a thin layer of dust.
