"Hm...who says Will must be anything beyond what it says it is? Everything you just listed is a concept Will could be applied to, but it is not will itself. You can love someone or something with all your heart, but without will...it will just fall right through your fingers."
Her tone became somber as she said those last few words, as if she were ruminating on something.

Eito nods. "I am... not sure. This is ruminating on the nature of love more then Shourido. I have loved before and I feel like when I have not been honest to it was out of weakness. I just overcame a weakness that lasted decades. But when I have been honest, my love has driven me even if not in the most predicable fashions. There is also love for ones Clan. For ones Empire. For chocolates. Will is Will. But it must also be given context. After all I am sure I can ask 7 Clan Champions what Duty is aside from Duty and get 9 different answers."

"Part of the nature of ethics. There is no universal definition."
She leaned forward and twiddled her thumbs.
"...I feel like Shourido does have value, though. It's virtues are not evil by definition, so it is not evil either."

He nods. "In my view, it promotes self-sufficiency. A Samurai who is loyal to their ideals rather then a single thing. Champions can be corrupted. Can lead their clans to ruin. Even traditions can be exploited. Shourido provides to tools to exploit but also to spot the exploitation. I lose no honor for calling...say an Otomo, a lying manipulative curr to their face because I have no value on honor in the first place. Only truth independent of status and birth."

She nodded.
"I see. Well, that is something I can agree with, then. Do not the Kitsuki seek the same thing, though?"

Eito nods. "They do actually, much to their credit. But they do not seek all truth, or all knowledge. And sometimes they do not use it as we do. There is a reason while Shourido is a gift of the Spider, I think others should learn it as well. Kuni and Kitsuki most of all."

"Mm...my family cares little for such things as honor anyway. We cannot afford to given the foes we face. It seems a natural fit, if only it were not for most of my family's paranoia."
She frowned.
"It seems especially odd because we have used the Shadowlands creations against them before. Have you ever heard of the Lost berserkers?"

"Indeed, shame about that Parinoia. The crab would make such good allies for us. We have much in common except for spending so long on opposite sides of a wall."
He cocks his head at the question. "I have not. Is the concept what it sounds like?"

"Yes. Those that are afflicted with the Taint are given the option to die in battle against the Shadowlands. The taint is a terrible thing, but it undeniably gives one some advantages. If one fails to avoid contracting it, and remains loyal to the clan...they can serve as excellent shock troops, due to their enhanced physical abilities and the fact they do not fear death."

Eito nods. "Ah, that is a wise choice. Mind you I grew up when the taint was optional. Quite a shock when it went back to the old ways. Hard to get over the old prejudices I had against the tainted now that I know it's not always their fault."
