Yesterday after lunch, Tamori Yoshi had phoned the adminitrative offices requesting an appointment with Doji Nishikawa. Hoping some prep and legwork could be done beforehand, he also conveyed that his business was in regard to a former staff member named Yoji, of the Spider Clan. He considered it quite fortunate there was an opening before class the very next day, and despite the horrendous weather occuring outside, he arrives promptly, if more than a little wet. Obsidian

Nishikawa is of course there to greet the young Dragon, bright and early and somehow looking as friendly as he always does in spite of the early hour. The door to his office was ajar in wait for his guest to enter at his leisure.
"Good morning, Tamori-san," the Doji says cheerfully, pouring warm tea as the student enters - it was as if he knew Yoshi would be wet and cold. "As I understand it you have some questions about a former staff member named Yoji?"

"Good morning, Doji-sama," Yoshi replies, bowing deeply to the Principal. "Thank you very much for seeing me today... and for the tea." He sits down in front of the desk, though a bit reluctantly at first as he doesn't want to get Nishikawa's cushions too wet. The warm drink is too inviting to resist however, and he takes a long, satisfying drink of it.
"I was hoping to learn more about the man, to start," Yoshi begins. "The reason being, some of my friends and I were exploring the woods yesterday at lunch, and we happened upon the site of a supernatural battle. From what the shugenja with us were able to tell, Yoji-san and a Crane and a Mantis fought and defeated a gaki there, though the Spider lost his life doing so. There's only a bisento and an empty sake bottle left there now to mark his passing, along with ruined pieces of some old shrine."

Nishikawa's smile turns to a frown as the young Dragon explains the story as he understood it.
"No, Yoji-san did not fall fighting a gaki." The loss of life of a good man was enough to sour the Principal's mood, even if only a little. That part of the tale could perhaps come later.
"I don't know a lot about his life before he came to RHS. He was an instructor in the arts of defense, that is why he was hired, and a skilled warrior. As you and your friends discovered, he was tasked to guard the shrine and keep the school safe. By a former principal here, though that all changed eventually.
One of the former students here had petitioned his Principal to eradicate the gaki for good. It was apparently in his area of expertise. So the principal of the time, for all of her wisdom, agreed as she believed they could do so with Yoji-san's help."

“Oh... I see,” Yoshi says, absorbing the new information. “Well, that changes things a little I guess. I also thought to petition the Administration to put up a memorial for him on the site, but if that’s not where he died, it wouldn’t really be appropriate. Still... there should probably be some kind of marker there... so that future students who discover the place don’t... temporarily fear for their souls and call a sensei in a panic... like we did.” He lowers his head a bit in embarrassment.

"As I understand it, it is a site honoring his memory. As much as a grave as any other - I doubt Kanpeki would have given the man who went and died on what he would likely see as "a fool's" errand much thought. That was his weapon, though, and they say the spirit of a warrior will never vacate their blade. He died in the ruins of Otosan Uchi, before they were built, traveling with the same students who had helped him before."
"I see no reason not to assemble a more proper memorial, if you wish to do so Tamori-san. I think you will need to talk with the student council, though. I leave these types of things to their discretion." It was only natural to prepare these young samurai for a life beyond academia, after all.

"Some of the more... martially-minded students in my group of friends thought the bisento should be reclaimed and put back to use," Yoshi explains, "but I believed that something should at least be made to take its place first. Also... like I said... it would be good to have the site marked in general, for those who don't know about its history." He was only slightly put out that what had worried them all so greatly seemed to be common knowledge to the principal, yet no one had bothered to do more than plant a weapon and leave a sake bottle for future generations to learn from.
"How do I... set up a meeting with the Council?" he asks, moving past his feelings to more practical concerns.

"I suppose if you knew one of them, that would be the best way to start. Have you made friends with anyone on staff? Kakita Tsuki-san would be the one you would be best served speaking with." Nishikawa asks rather nonchalantly, smiling all the while. Surely it was coincidence that this memorial would in some way be a reflection upon the Crane girl's own parents.
"Perhaps you could propose that the funds the Temple Maintenance Club raises during the Sakura Festival be put to good use there? Maybe coordinate with some of the vocational clubs if they approve your request. It helps to have a plan in place."

"I know Kakita Tsuki-san," Yoshi says, a smile more sweet than bitter upon his face. "She's going on a trip today, so I'll ask her as soon as I can tomorrow." He flushes with embarrassment, knowing that the Temple Club had absolutely no fundraising plans for the Festival, and as Captain, he was certain it was his responsibility. At least this serendipitous meeting had occured beforehand.
"So... how do Clubs typically... do that?" he asks, wanting to catch up as quickly as possible though expecting to be redirected to his Faculty Advisor rather than take up more of the Principal's time on a tangental subject.

"Ah, well that's a simple enough answer. You simply negotiate, as any samurai would were we in court. If the Dragon Clan needed lumber, they may need to offer concession to the Lion in order to get it. Say you wanted to box the weapon in around a wooden shrine of sorts. You might need help from the woodshop club, for instance, unless you have some latent talents with woodcutting I'm unaware of," Nishikawa teased, smiling at the light jesting.
"If they are doing, for instance, a haunted house as their festival activity? Maybe some of your club members could volunteer their time in exchange for some of the time they would spend building your shrine."
