Mako had made sure that morning that the student store's raincoats, umbrellas, and other water supplies were ready to go. But she hadn't had time to supervise the store itself - which was fine, it was left open under the watchful eyes of its 'employees' for the day, like most days. Now, though, Mako was happy to sit behind the counter, looking over the small class sized room they had made into the store. Mostly-fresh food items sat under warmers still, the shelves lines with snacks, electronics, popular CDs - including some by students - and a variety of other goods. Front and center were more umbrellas, in various colors and patterns - traditional ones matching to the different clans and families, but also untraditional cute ones, with bears, bees, and other cutesy things - alongside plain colored ones for boring people. Mako wanted to watch the various students coming and going, to see what they typically bought first hand. It was easy to go off numbers to see what sold and what didn't, and make plans to change their goods like that - but first hand experience meant she could learn what people looked at and ended up not getting. And who walks in but the Blockhead Crane. Fresh from his lunch with Ryuha and the Breakfast Club, and looking a little worse for wear because of the rain. His jacket, chosen more for style than for protection from the weather, was in no condition to be worn and he'd slipped it off. At least what was under was mostly dry, because the boy had the sense to keep under shelter. In one hand is the remnant of what had once been an umbrella, until something tore away the upper half.
So very clearly, he's looking at the umbrellas available. Though he does manage to spare a nod to the Imperial who was running the place.

Priya enters the store, carrying more stock and setting it up before going to take a seat next to Mako. Behind the counter, out of sight of the others, she squeezes the Imperial's hand, but says nothing for now. She fixes Kobushi in her gaze and waves to him, a wide smile on her lips.

The Crane notices and approaches, content to let thoughts of umbrellas out of his mind for now. He'll get a new one later. He smiles at the pair, oblivious to their relationship.
"Hi you two."

"Hello, Kobushi-san." She gave a little bow of her head to the potential customer, much more quiet and refined than she had been when she was at the concert. Oddly so, perhaps, to Priya, who sat next to her. "Come to finally browse our fine wares? I promise, it's the best stuff in town - most of it is purchased from the shops around town, after all." A little twinkle in her otherwise cold eyes, as she brags about the store's wares, "I see you seem to have gotten into a fight with the storm?"

He holds up the umbrella. Or what's left of it. Wrecked, ruined, and seemingly a little charred. He really didn't need to, given all the other signs that he'd been out in the rain. "One minute, I'm walking out of the dorm and the next a bolt of lightning leaves me holding this in hand. I'd say the storm managed to win round one."
"While I'm here, might as well look around. See what else catches my eye," he says, smiling. He is wondering where that energy from the concert went, but isn't sure he should ask. "Any recommendations? Beyond another umbrella, I mean."

"Maybe something with a plastic core" Priya suggests. "The lightning kami are not nearly as hungry for the taste of plastic as they are metal, but it would take someone smarter than me to tell you why."
She gives Mako another little squeeze. She is not entirely sure what has her so sad, but she knows better than to start asking her about it in public... A hard learned lesson to be sure.
She jumps up to offer something to the Crane "It is a little lighter than the metal kinds, so it gets to be balanced with all sorts of paints and colors too. They are a little more expensive, but more durable, and easier to repair..."

He takes the offered item, gives it a look over. Maybe out of habit, he takes a few quick swings with it. Testing the balance, perhaps? Or he's remembering what a certain terrifying sensei did with a parasol and wonders if that trick was applicable to all umbrellas or just that one sensei's. Or he's thinking about a different girl entirely, and possibly getting her something from the store.
"Still working on what you asked for, by the way. I figure if it doesn't rain tomorrow, I should be able to get the right clay and start work on it."
A pause as he glances at his hands.
"Actually, I could use a new pair of gloves, too," he says as he pulls from his pockets one very singed, charred glove. "I'm not sure how this happened without my hands being burned, to be honest. Don't suppose you have any?"
