It has been something of a long and hard day. Lots of sitting around and thinking. Work at the warehouse. Katsumi. Always Katsumi. She had a bokken in her hand, something part way between a no dachi and a katana, and she swung it viciously into several of the training drones.
Idly she wondered how much the school must spend on these things, as she watched them go down again and again. She was quicker, she was almost even a bushi that Aiko could be proud of, she was sure, but she was still getting hit a lot. Maybe that worked for her, maybe her thing would be ending a fight before it began, and she could certainly take more punishment than most people she knew, but she needed to be quicker still.

While he didn't show up much in the more physical wings of the school, he was there now. With so many people off campus, he figured now would be an excellent time to try out some of the equipment here. He figured he could learn how to use it himself, at the very least see what they had and look it up later. Looking at the setup was making him ache already, but that was why he was here. When he grew up, he wasn't going to get someone else killed. He may have failed as a bushi, but he could at least learn how to escape to safety, or at least do some damage before he falls.
When he walks into the training room, he sees someone hard at work. He watches them, figuring he could wait for them to finish. He was there to expand his training, she was clearly there to deepen hers. As he tends to do when watching someone doing something they are skilled at, he quickly loses himself observing, trying to catch every action, every choice, every response. At some point, he finds himself sitting, the bokken he borrowed in his lap.

She is at it for a while longer before she sees him, time passes and she draws to the close of her kata, light bruises decorating where she had been hit
"Hey" she calls to him. She had seen him around, but couldn't tell you his name.
"Ichiro Priya" she gives him a bow, sweat clinging her hair to her head "You her to train, or you like watching girls work out?"

He returns the bow. "Shiba Bai. I do enjoy watching bushi practice, indeed, but I am here to try to better myself. If you do not mind, I do not expect I will be long." He gets to his feet, returning his grip to the handle of his bokken. He looks over the Badger's bruises, then looks around the room. "Is there some sort of difficulty setting for this?"

"Yeah" she shows him how to enter it "But if you are getting to grips with the basics, I would recommend Kata to begin with." she adopts the teacher attitude that she has cultivated in working with Aiko, and moves into a basic Kendo stance "The main thing to do is to train your muscles to remember the moves, make them more precise and agile"

Bai nods, adopting the stance Priya shows him, and mirroring her moves. He seems...alright, about as good as one could expect from a courtier. His transitions are certainly sloppy, although he can hold the key points of the kata acceptably. He accepts any corrections offered readily. While he has his heart in the work, he is still going through the motions, pausing slightly between each change of stance. It doesn't take much training for his breathing to get heavy, sweat beading along his brow and small arms. Despite all that, he is able to at least keep up with his instructor's pace.
"Are there elements of Dragon Kata mixed into this? I believe I recognize elements of it from a presentation on the war of dark fire, indeed."

"That is a good eye." she smiles "The Keno sensei here is Mirumoto Aiko-no-Thunder. She and I have been training together, one on one, so perhaps some of her style has become blended into my own"
She considers it for a moment, and she decided she does not hate the idea. Having aspects from one of the best swordswomen in a millennia cannot hurt

Bai looks to her, clearly very impressed. "That is quite an honor. Indeed, I have only met her twice, once in one of her investigation classes and once in the Anime and Mange club. It must be incredible to be able to serve your clan, indeed the empire, so directly." His form falters heavily as he begins to think back to all of the stories he's read, all the various retellings of the third day of thunder.

"I mean, yeah, I imagine it must" she smiles "She kinda hates it though, the way everyone looks at her. She wants to teach, not be a hero. Kinda admirable in its own way"

"But teaching is the best way she can be a hero now. In times of peace, great bushi are needed most, so that the lessons of the past are passed on. Indeed, while times of turmoil can cause heroes to forge themselves, that is often the bloodiest, most dangerous path. When those who are born in a time when they are called to battle have adequate training, due to an unbroken line of those dedicated to preparing for whatever comes next, those are indeed the stories where the least destruction is caused. To have served as vital a role in history is the greatest honor I can think of, but to instruct those who will either need to do so themselves, or could but he the chain, is the greatest duty, indeed." He is still starring into space throughout most of this, but by the end his fucos is regained. While his limbs are still heavy with ache, his determination restored does push him back to where he was at the start of the exercise, perhaps even a little further.
