"Any particular reason, beyond the Otomo?" Aiko asks.

"Oh, it is just..."
Hinata hesitated. Should she tell Aiko about her running for the empress? As she noted previously, Aiko was a Dragon; there were political reasons to be wary of discussing it with her. Then again, Aiko had never proven herself untrustworthy. Besides, Saito had made a good point that morning: she was being too paranoid around people who could offer legitimate advice.
"...I am in the running for becoming empress. It is not something I ever would have dreamed of, and yet two weeks after meeting the prince here I am. All the politicking and intrigue, it is...not something I am used to. At all."

Aiko raises an eyebrow, and then thinks back to something that happened before school even started and she smiles softly, "Ah. And I was fortunate enough to see you two meet for the first time, wasn't I? I take it Lady Benten smiled on you both?"

Hinata smiled softly as well.
"Yes, she has."
Hinata paused, then sighed.
"And yet she has not. ...we love each-other greatly but the whole situation is complicated to say the least."

Aiko laughs softly, "Kuni-san, you act like she hasn't blessed you simply because things are complicated. No, she has very much blessed the two of you, it is just Hotei, the Fortune of Contentment, has yet to smile upon you. Because love is sometimes a very, very messy and complicated thing that doesn't always work out the way you expect. I have a dear friend, Mirumoto Taikishi, whose wife was born a Yogo, and they married for love, child, because to Taikishi-kun, if Fujie-san ended up betraying him, it was simply a sign that she truly loved him. We act like love should be simple and easy, when history indicates it is rarely anything like that."

Hinata pursed her lips, mulling over the answer.
"...that makes sense, yes. Love is not a simple thing at all. It is something one must fight for; it is a good thing I am prepared to do just that."
