“I see, I see.” Hanashiro places a hand on her own chin, watching her daughter as she speaks. It would seem as if the woman was looking for something.
“And between these aracade visits, letters, prayers and weekly meals...has no romance truly blossomed within your heart my darling?”

Tsuki features scrunched up a bit. She had no simple answer for that and even if she tried to blow it off, her mom's perceptive abilities were scarily sharp. She glanced off down the path to where they walked, using the time to pick her words that seemed the least jumbled. "I wouldn't say that's true, I just haven't haven't pursued it..." Her words trailed off slowly.

"Oh?" If Hanashiro was a cat no doubt her ears would have perked forward at the words of her daughter. "And why have you not my shy moon? Surely, with your brilliant mind and diligence, aren't so distracted by your students to do so?"
The shugenja's other hand joins in perching upon Tsuki's arm, giving it a motherly squeeze of reassurance. "What impossibility have you convinced yourself of now darling? You are always holding yourself to standards that exceed actual expectations. Why do you give pause in following your heart?"

The young priestess furrowed her brow and looked to her mother that both revealed personal burden and uncertain desires. "I could do it all, I know that mom. It just doesn't feel right to do so. How can I go after what my heart desires when I know it won't be able to last? The betrothal could possibly end that at any moment, and I would possibly have to break someone's heart to see it through. It would feel... cruel."
Her eyes fell to the ground to where her feet were, words still flowing from her lips. "I... I also want what you and dad have."

"Tsuki..." Hanashiro stops their pace. Standing in a slightly secluded area of the courtyard the Mantis Thunder moves in front of the budding woman. With tender love her arms wrap around her and draw her forward, resting her daughter's head upon her chest."Dearest, if that is what you want, then that is what you shall have. I fear you may have misunderstood the betrothal. It is not required to be you and even if it was, deals can be rearranged."
Reaching upwards she begins to slowly stroke the younger Crane's hair. "Tsuki, oh Tsuki. You are so much like your father. You hold yourself back in the name of duty but if you would speak freely then your desires can be made truth. From whom have you been holding yourself back from my little blossom?"

Tsuki appreciated the gesture but slowly took her mom's doting hands from her hair and lowered them down and away. "I don't think it's fair to ask my sister to take that burden, or for my brothers to take it either. Not that they could at this point, but you shouldn't have to rearrange or make changes to the whimsy of my heart. You and father did so much during your years. In school and the war. It doesn't feel right to ask you to do more, not after all that you have done. After all that was lost."
She offered her mom a small smile. "It sort of seems silly to tell you about boys I like when I compare it to that."

"Darling, do you know why your Father and I fought as we did?" Hanashiro leans forward, cupping Tsuki's face in her hands. "It is so you and your siblings could have the choices we did. The freedoms we did. The arrangement never stated that it had to be one of our children, just that we would facilitate a high rank marriage between the Crane and the Lion."
A bit of a sad smile comes to her lips and as the sadness spread through the Elemental Master the wind around them grew just a bit colder. "It was just preference that one of our children marry one of Arasou's children. He was like a brother to me, a kindred spirit. But If you or Nariko did not like the man you were matched with then your Father and I would refuse the arrangement."
Leaning forward she kisses Tsuki's forehead. "The world your Father and I want is the world where we can make you happy to the highest degrees we can. We want you to have options that even he and I did not. Now please. Talk to me about the boys you like, even if it seems silly, ne?"

Tsuki eyes cast downwards once more. Doubt had clung to her for so long about the betrothal that it had become a silent companion to her. A weight she had gotten use to, a duty she had believed to be far more permanent of a structure. Emotions danced across her mind. Frustration that she hadn't known sooner, embarrassment that she had never taken the time to ask, relief that she wasn't passing the job to her sister. She couldn't argue it either. Her mother knew more than she did but it was so hard to look at that truth and just step forward like it didn't matter. She had more freedom now, more choices, and Tsuki didn't know what to do.
So she did as her mother asked and started to talk about the boys she liked. "I... well I like a few," the words came slowly, Tsuki looking up to her mom. "This sort of feels weird to talk about. It's kind of embarrasing actually, but, I do like Seijuro a bit. Prince Yoshinobu as well. There's even another boy you've never met. His name is Tamori Yoshi-san."

As Tsuki speaks her mother begins to lead them towards a bench to sit upon. The wintery woman could see the turmoil written across the younger shugenja’s features. No doubt this was a struggle for her.
“I suspected you held affections for Seijuro and Yoshinobu. You’ve known the young prince your entire life and there were many moments shared with Seijuro.” A gentle smile perks across her features. “Though it brings me small amusement to find you fancy another boy named Yoshi. Perhaps Yoshi’s are just your style?”
Squeezing Tsuki’s hand Hanashiro’s face becomes more serious. “It is okay to like several people but you must choose one to persue. Whom is it your heart truly sings for?”

"Mom, you don't have to tell me to choose one to pursue. I'm not going to go after multiple men at the same time," Tsuki said with a slight hint of pain in her tone. That wasn't the kind of woman she was and she had already stepped down from the one likely relationship the moment she had learned the boys heart was split.
It took a moment for the priestess to collect her thoughts. "I... don't know which to be honest. Seijuro-san is calm and friendly, open to other thoughts. You can talk with him on most anything, but he also seems a tad aloof. There are times I'm not sure what he stands for and it makes it hard to know if I can count on him to stand beside me." Her words started slowly.
"Tamori Yoshi-san is kind, and honest, and is willing to do so much for his friends. He's so earnest it's impossible to not find it endearing, but he's at times timid, even if that's gotten better since I've known him. More over his heart was split, even when I did a small date with him. I didn't want to be the reason he couldn't commit to another." Her words picked up a bit, her voice more focused now.
"And prince Yoshinobu... well he is wonderful. He makes fun of himself, he sees his own flaws, and takes to them freely. He can be a bit overconfident, but I enjoy his bravado. He loves art so much, and desires to paint rather than fight. Yet he aspires to be great with a sword even though he knows he'll never need to wield it. He even challenged father twice. It was foolish, but still..." She smiled at the thought of it all.
