A dull fwap resounds as Doji Tetsuko falls backwards onto the delicate, thin mattress that will be her home base for the next year. It's not a 5 star resort, but it's still welcomingly comfortable. Her massive frame sinks slowly before settling, and the girl sighs happily. Another school year. More fun to be had. And this year, not only is her "sister" attending, but so too is her cousin! Not that she and her cousin were all that close, but that'll soon be remedied!
The Crane's belongings are almost Spartan, a small selection of clothes ranging from Saturday lounging to Court with the Clan Champion. Only one outfit for each level of formality, but in as far as Tetsuko is concerned that's almost twice as many as she needed, and she could have gotten away with even less. A gym bag stands upright at the foot of the bed, the handle of a tetsubo peeking out of the top of it.
The room itself is bereft of decorations, at least for now. That is, save a framed picture at the head of her bed. In it, three figures are sitting under a tree, books spread out before them and a large bottle of sake resting delicately in the grass. Two of the occupants have white hair and matching blue pendants. The man, a sharp and sever look on his face, is buried in one of the books. The woman, on the other hand, has a hand raised to her mouth to cover a grin and a laugh. The third figure is as a mountain, his head kicked back in laughter with rosy cheeks, a book half forgotten in one hand and a shallow sake dish in the other.

Ryouko stood before the door, taking deep breath. She tried to force herself to calm down, but her eyes twitch as her phone binged from a text message.
Deep breath. It wasn't Tetsuko's fault that she was stuck here, and her mother had been lucky to find someone she already knew to room with. Even if the person in question would only remind her of things she would rather forget.
"Maybe she won't be there..." the Unicorn said under her breath, before opening the door. Damn, tough luck. Her eyes landed on the form sprawed out onthe second bed, and she forced herself to smile, though it was obviously strained. "Tetsuko-chan." She greeted her cousin, before moving to her own bed and tossing the bag on it.

Having half begun to drift off into a nap, the sudden vocalization of her name brought Tetsuko startling to reality. The samurai-ko jumps for a moment, bolting upright.
"Ano- oh. It's just you, Ryouko-chan. About half gave me a heart attack there..." she says sheepishly, rubbing some sleepy fromher eyes. "How was the drive in, did you make it in all right? Get Daisuke settled in?"

She nodded in reply, as she started to unpack. "The stables are nice enough." She said, removing her large scimitar from her pack and setting it against the wall by the wardrobe. "I saw the stable master, I think he might be a distant relation of my mother but I hadn't met him before. Still, he looked competent and Daisuke like him"
She paused at that last sentence, snorting. "Daisuke likes everyone though so I'm not sure it means anything."
She glanced back over her shoulder at the white haired girl, propriety requuring she asked about the girl's health or some other nonsense. She certainly would NOT ask how the crane's summer had been.
"I believe it is your third year attending the school?" She settled on in the end.

Tetsuko laughs at the joke, the back of her hand coming up to cover her smile.
"Yes, yes I am sure he does. Especially if they bring him apples, if I remember correctly. Speaking of..." Rolling off the bed and approaching the small dorm refrigerator, the Crane procures an apple from inside and tosses the fruit to Ryouko. "Tell him I send my regards."
Dropping back down on the bed, she addresses the question directed towards her. "Yeah, it's my third year. Third and final. Can't wait to get outta here and get myself a good quality station, maybe somewhere with solid action."

The Unicorn deftly caught the apple, chuckling. "Will do." She placed the apple on the small bedside table, saving it for later. "Would you mind showing me around, later this week? I wouldn't want to be late for class because I got lost somewhere." Her eyes glazed over slightly at the mention of a place with solid action and she shuddered, turning away and returning to the task of emptying her bags. She was visibly tense, her movements those of barely contained anger. Her voice was too controlled, like she was trying not to snap.

"Yeah, definitely! Just let me know when you want to take a tour!" she says with a grin, totally oblivious to any tension in the Utaku's demeanor. Or at least, she has the presence of mind to not visibly acknowledge it.
Either way, the transgression begins to move behind them as the conversation turns once more.
"Y'know, I know how unhappy you are at having to come this year, but I gotta say: I think you're going to enjoy y'erself. Just gotta give it some time, is all." Tetsuko says in the thick Crab drawl she had picked up over the years.

Ryouko snorted. "It's a waste of time." She muttered, angrily shoving a couple purple undies in a drawer. "This is all Tarik's fault." She added, slamming the drawer shut. "When I see the damn bastard, I swear to the Kami I'll ---." She stopped herself taking a few deep breath and rubbing the bridge of her nose between two fingers.
"Sorry." She muttered, before resuming her unpacking with a tiny bit more care.

"Wait, you know Tarik-kun? As in Tarik al-Menjari-kun?" Tetsuko cocks her head curiously.

She turned once more, staring at her cousin in surprised. "Wait, when did -you- meet Tarik...-san." She added belatedly in a way that made it obvious she was used to calling him without any honorific. Oops. "Ah, I suppose you could have met when he got engaged." She said thoughtfully.
