"I mean, its not like there's a story there or anything." she says with a shrug. "It just seemed like whenever a group of us went out for ramen, or to a movie, or something, at some point along the way he started just... being a part of that group."
She squints her eyes accusingly to Ryouko. "Wait... did you just say Tarik...? No -kun, or...? C'mon! Give me the deets!"

She shrugged, sitting down on the bed. No point unpacking if she was turning around to talk every 5 seconds. "You know my family moves around all the time. I met Tarik-san when we were 8, while we were staying at the Jewel. We ended up staying there longer then most places my parents decide to go to. A whole two years, crazy. Anyway, there weren't that many kids my age, and father thought it was a brilliant opportunity to gain some favor with Tarik-san's father, so they would have us spend time together as much as possible. He's probably my only real friend, I haven't really had the chance to stay around one place long enough to make many more."

"Oh. Oh, I see." Tetsuko says, a first with a frown. But then her face begins to brighten. "Well then, I guess that just means we'll have to get you more friends, eh? I mean, what's the point in going to high school if you don't have any friends?"
If only things were just that easy.

The Unicorn raised an eyebrow, staring at the other girl unconvincingly. "Don't hurt yourself trying." She said, shaking her head slightly. "I've got Daisuke, he's plenty of work just by himself, I don't need an army of friends to take care to on top of him."

She shrugs.
"Hey, suit yourself. But you should know, if you're going to be hanging around him, you'll be getting to know quite a few others along the way." She grins mischievously.

The Unicorn frowned. "Already have." She muttered, gritting her teeth in annoyance. "Cheeky Lion chit with her idiot cat who thinks she can get away with anything. Daisuke would have crushed it's skull if I hadn't been there." She leaned back against the wall, sitting on her bed and closed her eyes, massaging her temple. "And then at the dorm meeting... They're all so... so damn CLUELESS." Her fist slammed against the wall. "They live in this innocent little world, where they can waste time building plastic robots, and playing all the time!"
She stood and started pacing, the built up anger bubbling up as she gesticulated angrilly. "They're just KIDS, Tetsuko-san! What the hells am I even doing here, wasting my time dealing with children!"

"Hey!" Tetsuko says, softly and soothingly. She reaches out an catches one of Ryouko's arms as she passes. "You are too. As am I. We all are. We just..." she pauses, trying to find the understanding and caring words that also convey her intention. "... some of us just have less of our innocence intact."
Letting go of Ryouko's hand, she adds, "And it's not a waste of time, Ryouko-chan. It's in doing these things that keep us grounded, remind us who we are. Do you remember, over the summer, Ol' Hida Hayato? The silver-haired giant who brought that go board with him every-where he went? Or Hiruma Kojiro, with her garden of Ikebana flowers growing in the shadow of the watchhouse?"
She smiles, pausing this time for effect. "Well, think of this as our go board and our Ikebana garden."

The Unicorn stared at her cousin for a minute, before sighing and letting herself fall back on her bed. "This is gonna be a disaster." She moaned in her hands, shoulders slumping.

"Yeah, but think about it this way. At least it'll be -your- disaster!" Tetsuko says with an optimism that defies the events of the summer passed.

Well, that didn't help lift her mood at all. With a defeatist groan, Ryouko stood, picking up the apple and moving toward the door, obviously abandoning the unpacking for later. "I need some fresh air." She muttered, before leaving the room.
