PM ALL FINISHED CHARACTER SHEETS TO THE THREE GMS FOR APPROVAL BEFORE RPING IN THREADS. WE NEED THEM FOR REFERENCE, AND TO UPDATE WHEN ALLOCATING SKILL AND TRAIT INCREASES!
Character Creation Guidelines for RHS:
Superseding the normal rule that a skill or trait may not be above 4 at character creation: First Years may not raise a skill or trait above 3. Second and Third Years may not raise a skill or trait above 4. Teachers may not go above six unless otherwise noted. Family and school bonuses may push you above the starting cap.
STUDENT CHARACTERS MAY NOT START THE GAME AT INSIGHT RANK 2
First Years (Freshman): Welcome to Rokugan High School, Rokugan's most prestigious and reputable institution of learning! First Years, I hope you are all ready to take your first step towards realizing your future! Today is but only the beginning of your journey. Let the RHS Entrance Ceremony commence!
First Years are built on a standard 40 point creation build with the rules changes noted below. They receive 10 extra bonus points that may only be spent on advantages. They may apply for up to 5 clubs at character creation while they try and find their place at the school.
Second Years (Juniors): Welcome back to RHS, Second Years! Just as the sakura petals fall in the Autumn and regrow come Spring, you too will re-blossom along side the cherry trees that line the walkway to our beloved school!
Second years are built on a 50 point creation build with the rules changes noted below. They receive 10 extra bonus points that may only be spent on advantages. Second Years may also apply for up to 3 clubs at character creation, or retain membership in a club from a previous semester.
Third Years (Seniors): Welcome back to RHS, Third Years! Just ahead in the distance lies your coveted RHS diploma. Do not let your self-discipline wane from the sight of your goals coming to fruition and remain strong. Graduation will come sooner than you think!
Third years are built on a 60 point creation build with the rule changes noted below . They receive 10 extra bonus points that may only be spent on advantages. Third years may also apply for up to 2 clubs at character creation.
Teachers: Another wonderful year of education begins today, staff of RHS! You must be just as eager as I am to get this school year into full swing. Whether it be through breaking up fights, dealing with PDA, or the occasional (I swear it's occasional!) ninja attack, you must do your duties as the molders and shapers of Rokugan's bright young future!
Teachers are built on a 100 point creation build with the rule changes noted below. They receive 10 extra bonus points that may only be spent on advantages. Teachers must choose one club to be the Faculty Advisor for. Teachers also may choose up to two subjects they teach, receiving a free Rank 7 in the skill appropriate for their subject. RHS only hires the best of the best to teach its students!
Schools List
In this game, you can pick any non Shadowlands/Lying Darkness based school. If you want to be a Bat trained by the Kuni, you can! If you want to be a ScorpLion, you can! However there are some rules:
If you choose a nonhuman school (Tsuno, Ogre, Ratling etc) without being of that school's defaut race, you MUST take one of the following advantages:
Child of Chikushudo
Supernatural Being
Genetically Enhanced
Starting outfit of each school is replaced by the Allowance Rules below.
Allowance Rules
Starting Outfit is now replaced by your allowance. Different Clans have different allowances, and your starting allowance may be modified by the purchasing of certain Ads or Disads. See below for a description of each rank and the starting allowance of each Clan:
Allowance 4: The sky is the limit. Not only do you have the money to buy anything the others can, your parents occasionally give you a ridiculous present at random. Maybe your private horse is stabled on campus, you've got your own boat on the lake, a fancy sports car to ferry you to and from campus when you go out, or a pop idol to play for your personal birthday party. Be warned - this much wealth can give you enemies from other students if you aren't kind enough to share. Allowance 4 characters also have personal suites in the dorms and don't have to worry about roommates getting in their hair, with access to free space large enough to throw parties. Rank 4 Allowance may only be obtained by purchasing the Wealthy advantage up to Rank 4.
Allowance 3: Your parents are rich and paying your tuition isn't a burden at all. You still get the newest phone each year, the newest and best made uniforms. You have no trouble buying dinner for all your friends or having any normal or reasonable want seen to.
Crane, Unicorn, and Imperials start at Rank 3 Allowance.
Allowance 2: Your parents are comfortable and so are you. You've got all your needs seen to without a lot of trouble, but if you want to pick up something special you may have to save your allowance for a week or two.
Dragon, Phoenix, and Scorpion start at Rank 2 Allowance.
Allowance 1: Your parents have to work for a living. They do well by you and pay your tuition but it is a burden for them, one you know all too well. You get new uniforms and books but if you want anything else, you better have a job on the weekend to help you pay for it. After all, you are here to get a good education and do better for the next generation.
Crab and Lion students start at Rank 1 Allowance.
Scholarship Student: If your parents sold their house, they probably still couldn't afford the ridiculous tuition this school costs. But luckily the Superintendent allows a group of students to be waved in. You often have second-hand uniforms, poor but proud belongings, and have to work a couple hours a week as a volunteer at the school to satisfy your scholarship requirements.
Minor Clan, Ronin, or any non-clan student starts as a Scholarship Student, unless he or she purchases the Wealthy advantage.
Clubs
Clubs and after school activities are a major part of the lives of the students any any Rokugani high school. All students are part of some number of them and they can often define at least one circle of friends or another.
Belonging to clubs provides tangible character benefits as well as providing some fun for signatures and scenes.
Each club has an associated skill and a piece of equipment. Joining the club afford you a +1k0 bonus to rolls involving the associated skill (applicable after club day).
Being captain of the club gives you a +2k0 bonus to rolls involving the associated skill, making you the undisputed master among the students. Clubs that have more than 8 PC members may have co-captains. The captain of the club also has access to the club's practice space or classroom area at any time to prepare for meetings. Each PC may only be captain of one club at a time.
I recommend and encourage you to use your imagination in coming up with clubs. PM any of the GMs if you have ideas or need any guidance!
Backstory
Perhaps the most important part of a character is his or her history. Why are they at this school instead of somewhere else? Did something in their past effect them? What does he or she want to do after graduation? How big is his or her family, and what are they like/how close is your character to them?
Your backstory can be as long or short as you like, and having one as fleshed out as possible may afford you more RP opportunities than you would otherwise have without. The Game of Twenty Question is always a great place to start if you are drawing any blanks.
