After the chaos with the boy was over, Hinata closed her eyes and began tapping her fingers on the side of the hot spring in tune to the music, letting her thoughts take their own path.
She thought of the koku she'd earned today, burning a hole in her pocket. She had not spent any of it yet, she was not sure what to even do with it. She had already resolved to send most of it to her parents; after all, she was hoping to pull her family out of poverty, what better way to do that than to give some of the first success to her parents?
At least...she hoped it was the first success. The way the Imperials had been acting, she could not fully convince herself she would succeed in the end. The crown prince had been nice enough, but that woman with him, that bitch standing in the hot spring right now... she had played with her like a dog with a toy.
Yet even the Otomo woman was not the most worrying thing on her mind. No, the worst was a force of it's own gnawing at her from the inside. A darkness she had only just seen face to face for the first time today, which she was now sure was trying to--
Hinata took a deep breath. No, it would not do to think of that, not now. Not when she was trying to relax. She focused on the music again, trying to think of more pleasant things.
There was that nice Gyushi boy she'd met at the party, Kogeki. She had not expected anything from talking to him at first. Her parents had always told her to be wary of the Spider, but Kogeki had been more genuine and decent than most people she'd met in her life. That only exacerbated the pang of guilt she felt when she remembered that she had been trying to manipulate him at first. And now, he felt something for her, and she reciprocated. She could only think that he deserved better than her, especially given who had pushed her to agree to a date...
Hinata hated to admit it, but she was grateful when Katsumi's question interrupted her train of thought. That was twice now it-- no, he -- had wormed his way into her thoughts. Perhaps it was best not to let her mind wander after all.
"Yes, Otomo-sensei. There was a celebration to start off the school year" she replied, trying not to let her disdain for the woman creep into her voice.
