He stands there for a moment, considers his options. Eventually, he switches stances. His form is much more aggressive now, reasoning that if Ryuha wanted to focus on defense, he could afford to drop his guard a little. It leaves him open, but it does give him the benefit of a greater likelihood of breaking through her defensive form. He makes contact, swatting at her from the side. [A little harder than he intended. But then, he was trained to never hold back. (OOC: 15 damage: 4d10o10k2 15; if Ryuha goes to attack his TN is down to 5.)

Well now. If Kobushi was going to do his very best, Ryuha would have to offer him the same courtesy. She takes a brief instant after the blow to center her chi and find her connection to the void. All she needed to do was remember the teachings of her sensei; let everything and nothing connect, let it flow through her and into the sword. The basics of the Shiba style of swordsmanship. Once again, she waited for the offensive, her stance entirely defensive. (TN 55 now)

Still no attack. That made the Daidoji worry. Either Ryuha was very serious about doing nothing but testing her defenses, or this was a trap. He'd seen both things before in his training, and he'd never been able to tell one from the other until it was too late and he'd committed to his choice of action already.
Then he remembers this isn't an attack from the Shadowlands. This is a spar. Even if it was a trap, it's not like Ryuha would grow a thousand teeth in a dozen mouths to eat him alive.
He takes in a long breath and decides a change of tactics is in order. He shifts again, mirroring her own motions. But rather than go on the offensive or defense, he tries to focus. Sometimes, pure aggression didn't work in breaking down walls. Sometimes, what you needed was brute force applied to a precise point. This is what he would try.
(OOC: taking Center Stance.)

The Mirumoto remained focused, staying in her defensive stance, her connection to the Void remaining strong and flexible. Nobushi could take as much time as he wanted, and if he hit her now she'd have to concede victory to the Daidoji's offensive skill.
Heh, imagine that, a Daidoji who doesn't stand around defensively like I do.

One last breath, then he makes his move. Unfortunately, only once he's committed to it does he realize this isn't going to work.

Ryuha remains defensive, her smile turning a bit more even.
"That surely wasn't your best all out attack, Daidoji-san. Hit me with all you have," she almost barked at him. "I'm offering you mine, You owe me at least that much."

"My apologies if I've disappointed," he says. He doesn't seem to mind the barking and sounds...genuinely sorry. He took a deep breath. She asked for it. He discards the spear. It was never more than a secondary weapon for him anyway. His school taught him to use his hands, to fight without the encumbrance of a weapon. So when she asked for his best, he decided it was only fitting that he use his best weapon. Unfortunately, it seems he misjudged something and his attack comes close, but doesn't connect.

Ryuha just barely, just ever so slightly, managed to dip under the Daidoji's incoming all out attack. So much so, that she could feel the wind from his blow as it whizzes by, no more than an inch from her cheek. She hops back a few times, relaxes her stance, and bows respectfully to Nobushi.
"Thank you, Daidoji-san. The last attack of yours did not disappoint. Forgive me if I appeared rude or angry."

He returns the bow, looking exhilarated. He holds it a little longer than is strictly required.
"There is nothing to forgive. Isn't the point of a spar to push each other's abilities?"
A pause, and then a thought occurs to him.
"Would you care to do this again with me, senpai? I'd understand if you're busy, though."

Ryuha raises from the bow, then retrieves her water bottle and towel, the latter to wipe away the decent amount of sweat she had built up from the spar. She raises a curious eyebrow at Kobushi's question, offering the Crane a small nod.
"In class, out of class? I'm sure I'll be around Daidoji-san. I'm not so busy, really... but if you ever need a partner I'm game, I guess."
