"I wouldn't mind the compan..." He noticed her attention turn to the new student, a first year by the looks of it. he was ready to greet her but a certain sigil caught his eye...a crab..., making a quick approach he would speak up, "Hello!"
Even if she is a scorpion it couldn't hurt to try and make friends with her.

Had the peasant woman just nodded at her? Hinata usually tried to be nicer to the lower classes, she wasn't so rich herself after all, but that was just disrespectful! And after Hinata had shown her respect! Hinata opened her mouth to reprimand her...
"You--!" ...and then immediately closed it again once the woman mentioned students. A teacher?
And Hinata had just tried to reprimand her. She felt her face go bright red, and was thankful she was wearing face paint.
"A-ah...sorry, I thought you were...apologies, sensei..."

Mirth played in the older woman's eyes. Umeko knew perfectly well what she looked like. She was actually always a bit suprised not more people mistook her for a servant.
The botanist was a bit suprised by how quickly the young Crab had understood her position, given how she had refrained to properly introduce herself.
"It's quite alright." She said with a smile. "I haven't introduced myself, the confusion is understandable. I am Umeko-sensei, head gardener, botany and medicine teacher. A pleasure to meet you."

At least the teacher seemed to take the outburst well. That was good, it would not do at all to go making an enemy of a teacher, especially not this early in the school year. She bowed again.
"This one is Kuni Hinata. A pleasure to meet you as well, Umeko-sensei. And you, Scorpion-san."
Hinata looked around at the garden.
"I came to see the garden. I've never seen anything actually tilled, most things in Kuni lands are grown in greenhouses..."

Suzaku was quite absorbed as he ran his fingers through the soil, first with a puzzled look then a smile. Better than any in the Hills. He then tilted his hat back to scan the sky. Lots of good sun and the greenhouse will help. Maybe some daikon, some yams, it could be a really productive year for food.

Trying to take a friendly approach yoshikatsu marched towards her. "Allow me to introduce myself, I am Bayushi Yoshikatsu. 2nd year courtier, perhaps you would be interested in joining one of Umeko-Sensei's classes, its great opportunity into proper etiquette and a large degree of medical knowledge."

Hinata kept her expression neutral. An introduction to proper etiquette? Was this Scorpion attempting Sadane? Well, it could not hurt to fire a light shot back, just to be sure.
"A pleasure to meet you, Bayushi-san. I am practicing etiquette already, but it is nice to see someone else who is learning show concern, neh?"
There, hopefully that would settle things. Hinata offered him a smile.
"The medical knowledge sounds like it could be quite useful, though."

Right, he was definitely playing Sadane. Hinata sighed internally. She hated this game.
