Post by Mirumoto Noboru on Jan 16, 2018 19:37:01 GMT -5
Noboru bows to Fuyuko then looks to his classmates, somewhat surprised whe Tarik joins them. Once he's sure they're in a proper position and starting to begin their trance into the Void the Mirumoto's voice goes soft, forcing them to listen for it and his instruction.
"Breathe." He begins, sounding a little older and nothing like a popular (or controversial) film. "Just breathe. Find your center in this world, that place where it is you, my voice." A pause. "And the music."
The Dragon steps back a bit, knowing they may fail, and that he may fail them. But fall down seven times, stand up eight, hai?
"Only when you are absolutely certain the music has stopped, I want each of you to stand and strike at me where you think I'm standing like you would an opposing duelist. If you strike before the music ends, I won't be standing where you struck. If you strike too late, you'll also miss me and I'll be past your arm."
(OOC: Leaving success and failure up to each of you. No rolls needed. Maybe you got lucky? Maybe you understood and connect! Maybe you're too soon or too late? Entirely up to you three!)

Kobushi listens, and takes in the instructions. If the sensei trusted the Mirumoto to assist, he would not question it. The sensei knew what she was doing. So he begins to find his center, and finds it runs opposite to his combat training.
He was taught how to scan environments with glances and peripheral vision. His mind was never truly centered on the Void. In fact, the Pragmatist school seemed to rely heavily on forever assimilating the world's details. Of taking them all in and using them to one's advantage.
So he tries another tactic. Fighting isn't the only way to find his center, he thinks. He imagines the wheel. The clay in his hands. The spinning motion, the sensation of it as it moves. The fine texture of powdered gold or the smell of lacquer. The music stops and he strikes.
The timing of the start of the draw is close, but his inexperience causes a problem physically. He doesn't draw the blade fast enough, causing the timing to be more even incorrect. His only comfort is that he didn't injure anyone in the process.

She does as she is told for now, listening, trying to feel the music. Like Kobushi, she is close at first, but she defaults to a more kendo like draw, not blending the arts together. She ends up striking to late.

Post by Daidoji Satoru on Jan 16, 2018 19:51:36 GMT -5
Satoru joined in on the meditation, as it beat watching the others. Whatever time he spent on the sidelines is best spent following one exercise to the next.
He relaxed, listening to Noboru. He did not want to strike the Dragon but...he didn't think he'd be able to even if he wanted to. It was difficult to find his center, to tap into his Void. He simply listened to the music and contemplated whether or not he should take part in the second half of the proposed exercise.
When time came to strike, he simply didn't. He heard the snap of many misses, and that was mostly all.

Still suffering from the effects of hangover, Tarik was doomed to fail. Still he did his best to appear trying to do whatever he was supposed to be doing.

Post by Doji Reiha on Jan 17, 2018 1:45:07 GMT -5
As sensei-sama announces the last round Reiha gives the remaining participants a respectful bow. "Please do your best to win this game. I promise I will do so as well!" The effect is perhaps spoiled by her delighted smile. She is thoroughly enjoying this game, and she is good at it too! Even better now that she has bound herself to it. It's not cheating as she's playing against mortals, who defy their Fortunes all the time anyway! As the music starts playing Reiha starts dancing around the chair. There is just the tune and the need to sit as the music stops and she is dancing along the strand of fate which leads to that point. It is rare sight to see the Doji so unconcerned with the gaze and opinion of others... ( Musical Chairs+Bound by Heavens+Void: 5d10 32)

Isao continued to observe the unorthodox exercise, gleaning how it could enhance his own natural focus through observation and quiet internal introspection.

Takezou tries to push out everything else around waiting for the moment the music stops. He hesitates for a moment and waits too long. 24 with void

Clearly some were throwing their all, their very essence and mastery into the game. Suzaku saw them speeding to the chair and stopped himself. There would be another day, this was not musical chairs to the death, and his time would come in season. For now he would be the one who flew away. His playful smile continuing even as he'd been beat, he went well off to the side and began to meditate, taking out an old set of wooden prayer beads.

Fuyu stops the music again and gives a bow to the three who did not win, and then to the one who did. "Suzume-san. While I have yet to cover assessment you show a clear mastery of the skill. There are some fights decided before swords are drawn and the wise man knows how to find them. Shinjo-san and Mirumoto-san, a well placed display. Doji-san congratulations. You have good skill with the void. I would like you to work further with Aiko-Sensei and myself on the blade. The Sword and Fan should both be studied regardless of your calling. This one is curious what you all learned." she says waiting to see the reactions of the others.
