Fuyu nods to Takezou, letting him know she knows he is there before she approaches Noboru. "You are a frustrating enigma Mirumoto-san. You show disrespect but also a deep understanding of the art. This one had thought to make you an assistant. Your family indicates you have a deep familiarity with Ninten and your practice that you have one with my art. However this one must address the disrespect you showed at the beginning of class. Particularly the deep and insulting disrespect..."
"To the Dragon Clan."

"I don't practice the Niten, sensei," comes the sigh from the Mirumoto. "My sensei back at Shiro Mirumoto taught that enlightenment can be found through the blade. As for disrespecting the Cra..."
Blink.
"H-how did I disrespect the Dragon?"

Fuyu offers a gentle smile, then reaches up to pull up her sleeve slightly. "This wound, was inflicted on my by Mirumoto Gobashi, we were settling a legal dispute and he bested me fairly. When he was later murdered by a Crane jealous of his prowess, I was the one who prosecuted, accused and killed that Crane. Gobashi-san beat me in honorable combat. Any praise to him, was praise to me for it took an opponent as skilled as he to best me. I have been required to kill Miramoto as well, and I made sure to hold them in the highest respect. Anyone insulting me says that those men died to an inferior opponent."
She sighs. "This one would never tell you to ignore insult, to ignore passion, to ignore duty. But courtesy to ones opponent rebounds and respects oneself as well. I am aware there is feud between our people. Tell me, would the Dragon declare blood feud on the Gajin? The Ronin? Strike at your foe with certainty, but honor them, because to honor your foe is to say you are worthy of their time."
She sighs. "Did that make any sense to you Mirumoto-san?"

"If that's the case, sensei, then why did Kakita Ibu seek me out for the purpose of starting a duel with me last year? And why haven't the Crane returned Mirumoto Okoro-san's daisho to his family?
He looks to the small woman with a cold gaze. Hatred burned deep within his eyes as he looked upon her, the potential to be both destructive to the student and forged into a weapon if properly focused shone within those orbs.
"Ibu should be thankful our duel was with bokken. Maybe one day his hand will heal and he'll hold a sword again; it'd certainly beat having lost his hand to a blade. And maybe once Okoro-san's daisho is returned I'll consider offering the Crane a bit more respect."
The Mirumoto bowed, offering Fuyuko proper respect -- probably because of her status and because disrespect to a sensei had severe repercussions. "Much as I despise her for her part in all of this, I promised Mirumoto Aiko-sensei that I wouldn't go out of my way to start problems with the Crane, Kakita-sensei. So I'll do better to remember my courtesy. Especially after some issues yesterday." When Noboru straightened, however, there was a little bit of an edge to his tone. "But if any start trouble with me?"
Better left unsaid...

Fuyuko meets that hatred with icy calm. "I never said you shouldn't defend yourself. I never said you cannot take issue with what our clan has done. I have stared into the eyes of men I was willing to die had committed treason to the Empire. But Courtesy is as binding as any magistrates cuffs. It is what is required of us to be better."
She cocks her head. "If you think I do not understand the concept of dueling with no hesitation, no mercy, you do not know my history. And if any Crane challenge you to a sanctioned match, the consequences are both of yours to bear. But by ignoring the honor to the clan and school, even to that of your enemies. You say to the Dragon 'You have been beaten by those unworthy of you. Ever Dragon who has died, was bested by curs. When you look at that banner and bow to it, you are not only bowing to our symbol. You are bowing to every Dragon who has had Crane blood on their sword, and every dragon who gave their life in your struggles. I wish you to assist me in this class. I will offer you the courtesy due one who has obtained the level of mastery you have. I thank you for having done so to myself personally."

"It was my fifth unsanctioned and impromptu duel with a Crane student last year, all of which were initiated by them, two of which I championed someone else," comes his reply. "The others got off easy. I merely disarmed them then walked off."
He looks over to the banner of the Crane Clan with a dark glare. Were he a fire kami the intensity of his glare would likely catch the banner on fire. After several awkward moments of silence the Mirumoto bows to Fuyuko. "Sumimasen, sensei. If bowing to the Crane Clan is a requirement to being your assistant, then I have no choice but to decline."

Fuyu nods. "Indeed. They did. It is not a requirement. It is more for you then for me. I am not going to suffer for it, only you. However if I feel you are lacking in Duty towards one of my Crane clan students. My patience will not be as gentle. Understood?"

Isao had been waiting after class and quietly remained while the Sensei and Mirumoto conversed. He didn't mean to eavesdrop but the nature of the conversation was very relevant to him as a person, considering clan and family rivalries. The young Crane looked between Fuyuko and Noboru before he dared to approach, where he bowed low to his Sensei; the Dragon was given an adequate one, reserved for a stranger.
"Excuse me, Sensei, but may I speak?"

The Mirumoto bows, "Understood, sensei."
When Isao approached Noboru said nothing, instead looking away awkwardly, uncomfortably.

Fuyuko turns to look at him, same ice in her gaze but more impassive then unfriendly. "Please do Kakita-san."
