"When I was a little boy my father told me the story of Kakita and Mirumoto Hojatsu. While Kakita never had the opportunity to face Mirumoto, he was fortunate that his son followed in his father's footsteps as the inheritor of his legacy," the Kakita began.
"Kakita and Mirumoto Hojatsu met eachother on the Emperor's 40th birthday. It is said that they faced one another in a duel for the Son of Heaven for what seemed an eternity. In the end, however, neither struck. They bowed to eachother and left. A lot of modern scholars argue why but my father told me this: the two men respected one another as samurai and swordsmen. They recognized eachother as equals despite their techniques being vastly different. Their swords were unnecessary that day to realize this.
"Later, they met one another on the field of battle. Both men knew it was going to be the last opportunity to cross swords. Kakita and Mirumoto Hojatsu faced one another and killed eachother in their duel; Kakita killed him in a single strike yet Mirumoto Hojatsu dealt a mortal blow. Kakita fell on his opponent's sword, taking his life. My father believed in death both men respected one another, truly understanding the other only to have their descendants and disciples continue to argue over who truly won. No one won that day, Mirumoto-san."
He shook his head and making sure he had the Dragon's attention, whom had looked away, he stood in front of him.
"We Kakita and Mirumoto need to honor our ancestors by showing respect to one another just as Kakita and Mirumoto Hojatsu respect one another. I don't know why members of my family and school have challenged you so because in my eyes, these are all petty things beneath samurai... But these are affairs above you and I, matters of which we likely don't fully fathom. So, you may disrespect the Crane for the actions of a few... And you have that right to be angry... But I would implore you to reconsider your stance for the sake of building a new future, a new status quo between our families. As such I offer you this..."
Isao bowed low to Noboru and held it, hands flat at his sides.
"On behalf of every Crane swordsman who has insulted you, challenged, and brought you such distress, I apologize and accept responsibility for the erroneous behavior of my clansmen."
