"Thank you, Gyushi-san." She smiled to the Spider, as she herself stood up, giving a bow to the rest of the class, "I am Otomo Mako. I have no formal training in the art of singing, but I have practiced many instruments in my life. Mostly which I have, unfortunately, not had the focus to master. I am fourteen years old, and a first year. I hope to have a good school year with each and every one of you." She rose from her little bow, a small blush on her face, "I don't exactly know my pitches perfectly but..." She took a deep breath, and mentally prepared herself to sing in front of others for one of the first times ever, before opening her mouth and letting the sound begin. Her voice itself is fine, perhaps even beautiful, but her ability to hit the low note is sorely, sorely lacking. She's clearly never once tried to sing low, and her good voice can't carry her past that issue. The high note, in comparison, is more technically competent. It wasn't anything glass shattering or that would shake your heart, but she held it for a time without it fading. And then as she closed her mouth, gave another little bow - this one more of a show-woman's bow, before sitting. Mentally, she was beating herself up about not being better. 5k4 (Sensation) = 24

"Good afternooon!" Hoshiko near enough hopped up off her seat. "I am Doji Hoshiko, or better known as Black Swan from the band Blackened Feathers. I'm better known for my bass playing, but all the girls in the band can sing!" And with that, she launched into a song, the notes carried perfectly in her ballad. She could do better, but she didn't want to make the rest of the class feel as far behind her as she knew they were. It was bad enough having a professional in a class as it was. Reiha does stiffen a little as Mako grabs her hand, but allows herself to be lead into the classroom. The Doji girl shrinks back in her seat as one by one the students are called forward to perform. Very, very self-consciously she shuffles into the middle of attention. "Hi, my... my name is Doji Reiha. Nice to meet you all." She offers a little bow. On the inside she is dying a little. Why didn't sensei ask us to prepare something!? Is this an advanced class? Are we supposed to know songs by heart? The Doji attempts a calming breath and launches into the only song she knows the word to off the cuff like this. 'Sakura, Sakura'. Because that's the lullaby her mother always used to sing to her at bedtime. The little kitsune's pitch and timbre is actually pretty good, she just lacks a little technique, and a huge amount of confidence, as is evident by the tremble in her voice and the sheer lack of volume. The Spider bows graciously at Mako's thanks but watches the others with some clear discomfort. First he seemed to be the only boy in the class and his rough voice was nothing like the fine instruments the others had. Also they were all way better then him. If he was going to take this class he was going to need to perfect the art.

After all students have done their presentation Yoko stood up and walked to the stage. "Konichiwa... I am Mi... Bayushi, Bayushi Yokohime... Let's see how it went..." She cleared her voice and smiled. The girl started to sing Perfectly pitched song as she danced along with the song. Singing 2 raises58

Huh, so there is one student that's almost as good as me.
Hoshiko bowed to the Scorpion, impressed.

... And another who would make her mother nod approvingly and consider as an apprentice. She really must have stumbled into an advanced class...

Hisui stands there, listening to all of the students. She addresses the students in turn, putting on an encouraging smile. A trick she learned from her late husband.
"Gyushi-san, I appreciate your willingness to try. If you're willing to learn, I can help you improve."
"Otomo-san," she says, going formal, "your voice still has such raw potential."
"Doji-san, as a professional, would you be opposed to assisting me instead of being a student?" she asks. "It seems like going over what I am teaching would just be old ground for you."
And it puts less pressure on everyone else.
"Doji Reiha-san. The raw materials are there, I can hear them. We'll work on refining them over time."
"Bayushi-san." The Utaku slips again into the formal, if only to keep up Yoko's cover. "Talented, as always."
"As this is a class and not a choir, your abilities will be judged based on individual performance. However, it won't all be execution-style solos such as today."
"Now, let's move on to the theoretical. The dull parts."
The Utaku slips into lecture mode, covering the areas of the anatomy that singing taps into. Every so often, she adds bits of personal experience or metaphorical elements, rather than sticking just to the science behind a voice.

"Assisting?" Hoshiko looked surprised, then it dawned on her; of course! It wasn't fair for someone as amazing as her to be a student! She needed to guide the others!
"I would be happy to assist you, Utaku-sensei!"

Kogeki nods roughly, taking out his notebook and taking notes on what she said. He may not be the quickest at schoolwork but he worked hard to learn as much as he can.
