He spoke something in Mekhem and Aziz appeared.
"It is no trouble at all. I will have servants bring some swimming suits for you to change at the bedroom you used earlier."
He smiled and sipped from his drink.
"You are wiser than most."

Well yeah, because most people are comfortable with their station. That's part of the hat-trick of wisdom versus knowledge. If you see a flaw in your own system, you can either blame someone else for your shortcomings or you can try to learn something new from them. Blame gets nothing done. Thinking of ourselves so highly only keeps the glass full. Insert more wise shit here. Those cheesy romance novels are all about rocking some poor chick's world. How do you think it gets done half the time? Okay...more than half the time through fabulous sex but the other percentage of it has much ado with open-mindedness.
"Thank you Tarik-san. I strive to keep an open mind. I know with age it is supposed to get tougher. We assume we've learned enough to know the workings of the world, but the world does not stay put for us."

He was already in the pool with his back on its edge when she returned. He was sipping a refilled drink.
"If I've learned anything is that I can trust in the words of the Little Prophet. All I know is that I know nothing." He commented.
"Is it ok if I compliment your looks or you will feel that I am hitting on you?"

The swimsuits Tarik provided were nice, and she did find one among them most suitable to her tastes. When she emerged poolside, his comment seemed to catch her out of whatever small mental drift she went on. She wasn't entirely sure if he was being hostile, but she responded as if she didn't catch any hostility from it. "I will be flattered, but I know where your heart lies." It's a shame though. Now she knows he isn't going to be hitting on her if he does. Nice way to check himself before he wrecks himself though.

He smirked at her answer and sipped from his drink.
"In that case allow me to say that your looks could make a monk forget his vow of chastity. As for my heart, pray tell, what do you know about that?"
He was intrigued to hear her answer. He had heard about Ryouko already? Had he been careless?

She doesn't know about Ryouko, of course, but a politically correct answer is just a decent to fall back upon when the truth eludes someone. The compliment she'd rank at about 7 out of 10, mostly because she has heard that one at least once before. Still, it was appreciated. While she was often reminded of her beauty, she rarely tired of it.
"Reiha-san is to be your wife, isn't she? And you seem to care about her safety and well-being. I don't expect you to correct me if I'm wrong, but how could I possibly be offended either way? The heart is a cruel thing. It wants what it wants."

She had no idea. That was good. He also had no idea about Reiha. That was also good.
"Indeed the Left Hand was most forthcoming to its blessings to me." The petrokoku helped no doubt.
"Reiha-sama is a gentle and delicate being. How could I not care for her. But saying she holds my heart would be offensive to her and my future family. We have barely started our courting period. It might happen but we are not there yet." He shrugged in disappointment.
"What about your heart? Has anyone stole it yet?"

Chiyo was beginning to sit by the pool dipping her legs into the water and letting them sway as she tested the temperature. She wasn't a strong swimmer, but just lounging near the water was nice. She wasn't planning on doing laps.
She reminded herself to get in touch with Reiha soon. A girl like her may know a thing or two about Tarik that he won't admit himself. Whether he's keeping things to himself or finds them inconsequential.
The matter of her heart was now the topic at hand, and it was her turn to come up to bat. Luckily, this was very easy to answer. A boring truth.
"It's still here, beating in my chest to its own song. Relieving, actually. A Scorpion in love is either utterly useless or extremely dangerous, and often to themselves rather than others."

"Let me guess, next thing you will tell me that you can swim." He shrugged as he left his drink by the edge of the pool and took a dive.
He was not much of a swimmer himself. He almost drowned in this very pool the previous day.
"I've read tales that do not fit your description."

“Tales are extremely unreliable,” she says, glancing up at him as her legs kick idly in the water. “Even when told by the very characters themselves, so much ends up being lost in translation. Assumed and appropriated. Sometimes even the narrators themselves are most unreliable.”
She doesn’t get into the water just yet. On top of that, she doesn’t plan on letting any water get into her hair if she can help it.
“In truth, the love-scorned are all dangers to themselves or others, no matter where they hail from.”
