It happened every time she had to go out of town. Her bags would be packed, the car would be ready to take her to the train station, and she'd be waiting impatiently for her Dad to drive her. He of course had to spend an hour making sure she had everything while her mother doted on her to ensure that she was okay for the trip. Invariably she would be late for her meeting or what not but this time she was late for the last train of the night to her new school.
It left her scrambling the next morning to take the first one, one that she barely managed to catch thanks to her Dad's anemically slow morning routine... but she made it, scrambling on just as the doors closed.
The whole ordeal meant she was late for her first day of school, classes already in session as the taxi dropped off the Horiuchi girl and her bags on the curb outside the girls dorms. She had two bags with her, a backpack slung over one shoulder and a large suitcase that had been... lovingly packed by her worried mother with enough clothes and supplies to survive an Oni invasion.
"Darn thing is too heavy... Okaa-san probably packed the entire kitchen in here... Now I'm late, everyone's in class... I'll have to find a way to sneak in without anyone noticing me... After I drop this stuff off in my room." she mutters under her breath, tugging the suitcase by the long telescoping handle as she works her way up the stairs to the Girls Dorm.

Somewhere in the halls, quiet and walking around, is Utaku Hisui.
She'd scheduled her classes for later in the day. Paperwork for her classes had finally processed, and she found herself without anything to do. It was, she deemed, unlikely for any student to come to her office for assistance or advice during the first class of the first day. So she decided it would be best to walk off the inevitable embrace of Emma-O upon her soul. Remaining idle was a good way to remain idle forever.
She chose the dorm. To reminisce. It had been years since she was last there, and she'd almost forgotten what it was like. The brief moment she was there and encountered Aiko had brought back memories. Some bitter, some sweet.
Today, however, the Fortunes threw a student her way. A young one. A pretty one. A bite on her lip reminded her not to look too much.
"Do you need a hand with those?" she asks.

Nadeshiko froze slightly as the voice came out of nowhere, her senses lowered due to her frustration with being so late. Her eyes closed for a brief moment as she analyzed that voice, feminine, older... adult older for sure. Probably a teacher in her mind which meant she'd been caught sneaking in late and skipping her first class.
Her bag was straightened so it would stand on its own as the Horiuchi girl spun on one foot to face Hisui-sensei, a rather large smile on her face as her twintails bounced slightly from the motion.
"Oh Sensei, I'm sorry I didn't hear you approach... I should be okay but if you want to help I would never say no to it." she takes a step back then, her smile fading slightly as she mounts the stairs and leaves her suitcase waiting a step below.

Hisui approaches, taking whatever bags the younger Unicorn were willing to let her carry. She didn't seem mad. Probably a good sign, in terms of temperament or the whole getting caught thing.
"You're either leaving school on the first day, or you got here late," she comments. "Which is it..."
She glances at the mon. And then checks again.
"...Horiuchi-san? Huh." As she leads the way, she notes, "I haven't heard that name or seen that mon in...I don't know how long."

Nadeshiko takes another half-step back as her suitcase was taken, the bag probably not as heavy as the girl had thought, she was just tired from the long trip and the fretful night of sleep.
At the mention of her name she perks up a bit, her step picking up slightly until she reaches the front door of the dorms which she graciously holds open for Sensei.
"Yes, uhh.. probably a thousand years or so. Hmmmm..... I'm pretty sure I can trust you Sensei... but I'm actually the last of my line. My parents just decided I should get a proper education her at Rokugan High."

Hisui lifts it without much issue, either being stronger or just less tired than the student. She leads the way up the steps, but stops in the hallway so the girl can get her bearings. Perhaps find her specific room.
She nods as Nadeshiko holds the door open. Such a polite girl.
"Last of...I see." Hisui ponders. A Horiuchi in RHS. She'd never thought it was possible, yet there this girl was. Right in front of her. Being far from the political sort, she couldn't even begin to consider the implications of this. If any. "Well, do try to be careful. Accidents sometimes happen, even here. And you'd be surprised at some of the things that you meet in this school."
"Ah, my manners. My name is Utaku Hisui. I'm a sensei here. I teach singing and enigmas."

At the junction of the hallway Nadeshiko pauses, glancing around for a room directory to figure out exactly where she was supposed to be going. That thought soon slipped her mind as Hisui finally introduced herself, forcing Nadeshiko to turn to face the old woman.
Hisui gets a proper half-bow from the black-haired girl, her twintails falling forward as she glanced down at the floor. "It's a pleasure to meet you Utaku-Sensei. I probably won't be attending any of your singing classes but if by enigmas you mean puzzles and mysteries I will be there in a heartbeat. I'm sort of a mystery and detective buff."
She stands then and smiles "I am Horiuchi Nadeshiko. I apologize for being late to school but certain things happened and I was unable to make my train last night... I truly hope we can keep this between us? I would not want to gain a reputation for being... tardy on my first day of school."

"It's alright. I've seen more than a few late arrivals here, both as sensei and as a student. I'm not one to judge," she answers. The smile is meant to be reassuring. "Though I would be careful about wandering the grounds during class hours. You might be mistaken for skipping your classes."
She assists the younger girl, but lets Nadeshiko take the lead in finding the right room.
"I won't make mention of it unless administration requires me to speak on the matter. But I doubt that will happen."
"Hopefully, your roommate won't be too surprised that they're suddenly no longer the sole occupant of the room."

Her face darkens slightly at the mention of a roommate. Her eyes narrow and her lips curl slightly into a frown before it swiftly disappears and her expression returns to its currently chipper place. She turns slightly then to face the bulletin board she found, fingers running slowly along the names to try and find her own.
She reaches the bottom after a moment before running through again, thankful she was facing away as her expression soured slightly at missing her name the first time through/
"Well, I appreciate it Sensei but you never did clarify what kind of Enigmas your class focuses on, If that's an enigma too I'll just have to puzzle it out like Kindaichi-san."

She chuckles.
"For today, I plan on a few questions and answers, along the lines of a Togashi philosophical exchange. I don't think most of the students here are ready for solving a full-blown criminal or ontological mystery," she answers with a smile. "Or one of a spiritual nature, for that matter."
"If you have any questions about the school, feel free to ask me. I've been here as a student, and I remember most of what it was like."
