"So gentle Crane-same but I of course have secondary ulterior motives. It has caught my attention that Umeko-San has caught your attention. Am I wrong in this?"

Kangei smiled a bit at the other teacher "She is a lovely woman to be certain, I believe you have showed quite a bit interest in her as of late."

Eito raises his brow but nods. "I have, quite a bit. So lets lay our cards on the table. Play an honest man's hand. You might find me surprising?"

Kangei pauses for a moment as he takes a bite of the food laid before him. after a moment, he swallows and looks at Eito "She is certainly a fascinating woman, and as we have agreed quite lovely." a small smile touches his lips and his eyes go somewhere else obviously remembering some fond memory "I have.....enjoyed the time I have spent with her the past couple of days."

Eito sighs slightly. "So cautious, so caged. I agree I have also enjoyed the time I spent with her, I was wondering if you meant to woo her for marriage. It is an odd choice, her being a ronin with no name, title or wealth. I mean the Spider need all the help we can get in numbers, and seeing as I have no real following of Bushido, I can marry for love or pleasure. So whats your plan freind."

Kangei smiled almost apologetically "I'm sorry but I'm sure you can understand when you love your life in the court everything smells of a trap, especially when ice walked into the proverbial spider's web." Kangei looked at the spider more seriously "I can't tell you exactly what my plans are for Umeko, she would certainly make an interesting life partner. I know not what her plans are but I believe she is beginning to trust me." He paused again thinking "I could certainly see myself marrying her but have not given it extensive thought at this point."

"What drew you to her? Love?" he asks with a mischivious smile. "And oh don't worry it's fine but this Spider actually just wants whats best for her. Part of me wants that to be me but, maybe it isn't and then I must make that choice to help her."

Kangei looks solemn for the first time in their meeting. "Love is a fickle and fleeting thing Eito-san. It hits you hard like a hurricane burning your soul like so much tinder. But it cannot last that way it would burn you up. I'd rather have devotion than love, I'd rather feel commitment than passion. Commitment and devotion, in my experience, weather the storms of life much more readily than love does." Kangei's voice is soft, even for him, despite the relative peace and quiet of the room Eito would still need to strain to catch every word. Kangei smiles again, yet somehow it looks sadder than before "was it love that attracts me to Umeko-san? No I don't think so. She has a drive in her thanks visible to all who look. She is the kind of woman that can can hold a commitment, she could put a cause before herself. That kind of devotion is.....attractive." Kangei sighs "would I love her? Likely yes but more so I would be loyal, I would be devoted to her and together I imagine we could accomplish great things." Kangei falls into an awkward silence, then uncharacteristic out pouring was like a child's temper tantrum to the crane, and wholly inappropriate for someone he barely knew.

Eito listens carefully, nodding as he speaks. "Same that drew me to her. The Spider call it the virtue of determination. Its what drew me to her as well. Do you simply seek someone who is devoted or do you have suspicions about her cause? That her cause is good. After all I have a cause I am devoted to, that I put above myself. But my cause, my devotion is powered by a love that will never burn out. I noticed it in her, as did you, as did others. I have taken up her cause as well as my own. I just needed to be sure that you were a man who wanted to be her ally and not her conqueror"

"I know she has a cause. I know it is something she cares about a great deal. As to her exact goal, I am uncertain. She has decided to get to know me better before she decides to let me in fully." Kangei laughs at Eito's last sentence. "I highly doubt a man could truly conquer that woman, I imagine her fire would burn and tethers and strength of character would shatter any bindings she did not want on her."
