She's seen enough. Three consecutive touches, all potentially lethal if done with live steel. She isn't afraid to admit defeat, and bows appropriately.
"Your technique is excellent. Far better than myself or most of my peers when I was your age. And your speed is what I'd expect from a Kakita," she comments. Her tone is sincere, matter-of-fact. And she thinks the boy already knows these things. "Tell me, Kakita-san, do you intend to be a yojimbo? Or perhaps the armies of the Crane?"
"Both would warrant different assessments of your abilities."

"I don't really know," he confessed sheepishly. "But I've been told before I have a way with words... So, maybe I would be better suited in the former position?"
The idea of serving on the battlefield, killing men and women by the score upset his stomach and made him uncomfortable. Sparring was one thing, killing was another. He did his best not to display his innermost thoughts on the matter, practicing a mask as his smile faded. "I only hope to serve in the best way possible for my clan, Sensei."

"I can't say for sure because I don't know how the Crane assign their bushi, but if you have a way with words, you might be better suited as a yojimbo, yes."
After a few moments of consideration, she adds more advice. "I would recommend training and matching against opponents using a variety of weapons and styles," she says. "A yojimbo must defend his charge against any physical threat, not just duels. The more you understand how to fight against other arms, the better prepared you are."
"And learning how to run unhindered by obstacles typical to an urban environment would help in an emergency."

That prompt a small grin, the Crane looking like he knew something she didn't.
"H-Hai, Utaku-sensei! I'll begin training in new weapon forms and starting considering unorthodox techniques," he said with a bow.

"Oh, one last thing," she adds. "I've never been a yojimbo myself, but I did serve briefly as a guard for a diplomatic mission."
"It is good to know how to talk. But you'll also need something to talk about. Art may come naturally to a Kakita, but other hobbies like history or popular entertainment can work too."
She favors with a final smile. And her contact info.
"I believe that is all I can offer for the time being. But if you think I can help with something, call me."

Isao looked down at her contact information and looked back up to her. He was momentarily bewildered that a teacher had given him her number. Was she...
"Thank you, Utaku-sensei! I'll take your wisdom to heart and incorporate it into my studies," he assured her with another bow. He looked at the number again before he slid it into his kendogi, not sure what to make of it but he kept a straight face. Call her if he needed anything...? In the very least, he was practical and udnerstood a Crane needed friends in high and low places.
"Is there anything I can help you out with, Utaku-sensei, in exchange for your generosity...?"

"Hmm. A little odd for me to give you my number, isn't it? My apologies for any misunderstanding," she says. "I used to teach at Shiro Utaku Shojo. I'm more used to having only female students."
"And no, I have nothing I require assistance with at the moment. But thank you for the offer."

...did she think he looked like a girl?
Isao felt a little bit crushed by the idea. What if she confused him for one of the female students? He blushed at the thought of it.
With a flush he bowed deeply.
"Excuse me," he said, his voice quiet as he felt embarrassed by the irrational thought.

He hurried to collect his martial arts bag and left the dojo thoroughly embarrassed.
