"Well, you're only a first year, correct?"
The sun broke out a bit as they walked into the clearing; It was obviously man made, though there was nothing artificial about it except a few smoothed down tree stumps and the mowed grass.

"I know... I still have lots of time to figure it out," he says, repeating the words by rote. As he reaches the clearing, Yoshi stares up at the treetops, shielding his eyes from the sun. "But... I feel like... like I've already had my whole life, and...." He trails off, shrugging and shaking his head helplessly before turning back to Momiko.
"Can I help you unpack?" he asks, walking over close her.

"I'd appreciate that, hai," she says as she sets the basket down on one of those stumps.
"As for your decision... I guess I can't help you so much there. I mean, I only came to the conclusion I did thanks to kind of being lead in that direction. Having to take over the family business and all."

"Anything I stood to inherit from my family... was denied me at birth," Yoshi says. A moment later, he gives Momiko a pained look of apology and shakes his head, "I'm sorry, Asahina-sama. That was disrespectful and selfish of me to say. I'm happy that your mother and father have provided so well for you, and I should be more grateful to have been sent to learn here by mine." As they talk, he'll help in whatever way Momiko directs.

"Dis... respectful? No, no, it's fine. I mean, to me that is. If you felt there was something wrong about what you said then I guess that's entirely your own choice but I certainly didn't take offense at it and so..."
She took a deep breath and steadied herself from being flustered; She had been worried, honestly, when he'd given her a pained look, "What... I meant to say was, your feelings are your own. I don't think you need to be ashamed of them. Maybe... look at it from a different perspective. But just because there's the good, doesn't mean the bad isn't there. But maybe I'm just rambling; I mean, I know parents can be a touchy subject for some. I know I don't like talking about mine all the time..."

"Something else we have in common," Yoshi observes with a smile. "Though... I suppose we have different reasons for not wanting to talk about them." For Momiko, he assumed it was just fatigue of being asked all the time, since as he understood, her parents were probably pretty famous in certain circles. He thinks on her other words and, pleasantly surprised, notices yet another parallel.
"You shouldn't be ashamed to express yourself either," he tells her, echoing her advice to him. "Don't worry about "rambling" so much; listening to each other is what friends do. I... I really like listening to you, as much as I do talking and having you listen." He hopes his tone and expression are sufficiently conveying his gratitude.

Momiko sighs softly before giving Yoshi a smile, "Thank you, for feeling that way. Still, I guess a lot of the time it's more simple to let others stop judging you than it is to stop judging yourself. You know what I mean?"
The picnic is forgotten a moment, Momiko's blue eyes looking intently at Yoshi, basket simply sitting on the exposed part of her legs below the hem of her skirt with her hands on it.

"I understand," Yoshi says, nodding and sitting down next to her. "I think... I'm starting to figure out... that sometimes you need to try looking at yourself through someone else's eyes, to see what's good about you." He smiles at her with an expression meant to convey he believed he was looking at something beautiful.

She gave him a wry smile, "Does that apply for you too then, Yoshi-san?"

"What's good for the Crane is good for the Dragon," Yoshi says, nodding again and chuckling over his turning the old "goose" and "gander" saying on its side. His smile falters a little as he continues, "It... hasn't been easy. I've only just started making real friends since coming to school here, and... I'm still sort of figuring out exactly what they think of me." He cocks his head to the side poignantly as he looks at Momiko. For all the time they'd spent together so far, her inner thoughts still felt very much a mystery to him.
