Ichiro smiles and nods "yep this is the new me." He says with a sweeping motion towards himself. He pulls his phone out and swipes on it for a bit and shows Hoshiko a slightly younger looking blonde boy.
After looking for a second she could see it was him, the eyes are the same, the nose is a match, and the mouthhis the same shape but where Ichiro now holds himself high with confidence, this boy was slumped even smiling in the picture his body gives off an air of self consciousness. Where Ichiro now is in almost peak physical shape, this boy was a chubby kid not fat mind you but chubby all the same. This boy looked meek and bookish where as the Ichiro before Hoshiko was bold and jockish.
Ichiro pulls the phone back a sad smile on his face. "That was me for 2 years here. I was quiet, unpopular, no luck with girls." His smile lost its shade of sadness as he continued talking "but I found passion this summer and with passion came success and with success came confidence. So now I'm determined to make this year my best year at RHS!" As he says the last he gives Hoshiko a thumbs up and winks at her win a wide grin on his face.

Hoshiko leaned in to look at the picture, looking surprised.
"You've changed a lot! Good job!" She gave him a thumbs up, smiling at him "you're gonna rock the school now! Not quite like I will, but we can't all be rockstars right?" she giggled

Ichiro chuckled "Well thank you for saying so. Tomorrow is the first step on that path, Captaining a club, begins tomorrow."
There is a pause then Ichiro speaks up again "So Hoshiko-san, what are your parents like? You must have some amazing parents to have made such a beautiful and successful daughter."

"Boxing club?" She checked, as he seemed big on that, before nodding. "My parents are great! My dad owns the second biggest record label in the Crane lands, but he doesn't sign just anyone. No, he focused on rock and metal artists, and all the most talented artists want to be part of his label! My mother prefers to stay out of the spotlight, she's happy just looking after our garden, planting flowers and growing herbs. They really love each others, it's so sweet."

Ichiro nods "boxing or kendo most likely I'm equally skilled in both."
"Wow they certainly sound like wonderful people. I assume they have encouraged your pursuits so far, your father being in the business and your mother being such a loving figure."

"Uumm" Ichiro scratches the back of his head somewhat awkwardly "well my dad is a Shireikan in the Akodo army, we have a somewhat......tense relationship. He has always driven me to be better but he has a very, tough love style to him." Ichiro's tone is fairly casual but his smile seems a bit forced? its difficult to tell but something is slightly off. "My mom is a quiet, compliant woman. Very traditional, my father runs the home my younger brothers are all in military school studying to be officers and my sisters are all well trained home makers that my father plans to marry off some day."
Ichiro sighs heavily "honestly our relationship isn't great I've never quite lived up to what he expects of me." Ichiro puffs his chest up and turns his voice low and gruff likely imitating his father "son you need to focus on your studies, look at your brother he is ready to accept a command next year and you're still off playing with sticks. Study is more important than sword play if you plan on running the army one day. grumble grumble grumble." he breaks into a smile and lets his breath out in a laugh.

"Oh..." Hoshiko felt bad for asking, looking down at her plate for a few moments. There was a smile though at his mocking tone, looking up again at Ichiro.
"He just wants the best for you I think, and go about it in...maybe the way his grandfather did? My father pushes me to be better as well, and I think I am better for his influence."

Ichiro shakes his head, he wears a slightly apologetic look and runs a hand through his hair. "Listen Hoshiko-san, I hope its alright for me to call you Hoshiko-san, my relationship with my dad is complex as hell. He might love me in his own way but this isn't something you want to hear from someone after having only knowing them for what an hour or so?" he laughs "perhaps we'll one day dive into the crazy pool that is my home life but trust me you don't want to dip your toes right now. Sorry for even bringing the topic up."
He gives her a charming smile a discerning person would likely see a bit of pain behind the eyes but else wise you see a perfectly friendly boy enjoying his time with a beautiful girl.
"gah I hope I haven't ruined the mood and made it all heavy in here, I have a tendency to stick my foot way in my mouth, forget I said anything."
Ichiro attempts to switch topics "So how have you enjoyed your fancy prison here at RHS, not too bad a place to be forced to go i imagine."

"I'm sorry" Hoshiko bowed to the boy, feeling bad now "I didn't mean to go into an uncomfortable topic. And...please feel free to call me by my name" she gave him a small smile "as long as you don't mind me calling you Ichiro-san?"
She chuckled at 'fancy prison'.
"Well, it has lovely inmates that I get to share lunch with" she grinned at him, hoping to make him feel a little better.
