"Hai sensei" she bows, and waits for instruction. Defense is something she has less experience than offence, but is willing to learn for the sake of her training.

Aiko starts to go through a routine with Priya, where the Mirumoto starts off slow, building up into a flurry of attacks until she lands a touch. Each time, she sees how long and how fast the Badger can handle before she is overwhelmed, each time offering helpful advice after each touch, trying to help the Badger tighten her defenses.

Her skill at defense is not near as good as her skill at kenjutsu. Whilst she will one day be a talented swordswoman, she will likely always favour attack as the best defense. Still though, she is a willing student, happy to learn what she can be taught, and listening attentively to mistakes. She wants to prove herself, to be taken seriously as a warrior and she is getting that here.

Aiko seems to understand this, and is trying to strengthen Priya in areas she is weaker, wanting to ensure that one day, she will be the best. And after about a good solid half hour of this, Aiko, who has started to break a sweat, would stop and nod to Priya.
"Now, let's switch places. See how I do defense," Aiko says, wanting to get a better idea of Priya's overall skill.

Priya has strength and stamina, maybe even enough to keep up with her mentor, but she is starting to sweat too. Switching to offence, she is far far better, as skilled as a first year could hope to be. Her stance is agressive though, something reminiscent of the Matsu style perhaps. She has more than enough strength to control her blows, but she is making up for her lack of agility by dropping her own defenses.

On the defensive, Aiko is clearly a much harder target than any samurai has a right to be, seeming almost to avoid blows that by rights should have connected. But it probably isn't surprising, as each near miss is hard earned, rather than just being the Mirumoto just toying with the Badger. The Mirumoto can't help but think of her own spars with Bayushi Makubesu, where she rarely managed to land a blow on the Scorpion, and how each near miss taught her far more than a hundred hits on another foe. She smiles, offering encouragement after the near misses.

Priya is not as discouraged as she might be. After all, this is perhaps the finest swords-woman in the empire. Just the chance to spar with her is a chance to improve, to be one of the greats. She might not be remembered as a Thunder, but she might be remembered as a Thunder's star pupil, and then a hero in her own right. She tries not to daydream, and instead focus on her work.
