Rodrigo didn't mind the name butchering, he'd come to expect it at this point actually. Instead of saying anything, he turned to Isao and winked, giving a thumbs up, then stepped into position and took...a very strange stance. It was a fencing stance but if Aiko or anyone else didn't recognize it they might just think he's being an idiot.

The Crane grinned, bowed to Rodrigo, and took his practice weapon out and brandished it in a traditional kenjutsu stance commonly seen at the Kakita Dueling Academy. As soon as they were ready, the Crane let out a kiah shout and advanced quickly on the gaijin. His sword was a blur, as were his steps; he went for a straight forward downward strike, attempting to catch Rodrigo on the head. OOC: Agility/Kenjutsu 28

Isao was quick, but Rodrigo was quicker. With a flourish, he flicked his wrist and knocked Isao's sword out of the way, then hopped to the side and delivered a blow to Isao's lower chest. He spun with the step, turning around to face Isao once more. (( Agility/Kenjutsu 50 ))

Caught off guard by the wholly unorthodox technique of Rodrigo's fighting style, Isao wheeled back full of surprise. He knew he was fast, but the gaijin was far quicker than he expected. A grin flashed across the boy's face, ear to ear. "Oooo! I'm going to like this," Isao chuckled, assuming a more aggressive stance. He just needed to be quicker but instead of another head shot, he went in for a body thrust. OOC: Agility/Kenjutsu 31

Grinning back, Rodrigo dodged with his upper body so the strike went past him, letting Isao's momentum carry him forward for Rodrigo to deliver a blow to the other boy's shoulder. Rodrigo chuckled, then clucked his tongue. "You're putting too much focus into one strike, my friend." (( Agility/Kenjutsu 43 ))

"All it takes is one," he grinned. The gaijin's technique clearly worked, but he wouldn't let that imply his own was not good. 2,000 years of refinement made the Kakita some of the finest swordsmen in the Empire. He was just far too young to have grown into his full potential. With a wrinkle of his nose he went for the boy's hips, swinging up from hip to shoulder in another attempted blow. Well, that was a clever move. Cut diagonally so as to prevent any dodge that wasn't simply jumping back. Someone less experienced may have done just that, and in return left himself wide open to another attack. Rodrigo, however, was not unexperienced. Instead of trying to dodge, he shifted his sword slightly so it stood in the path of Isao's strike and caught it. Then, faster than one could blink, he flicked his bokken up the length of Isao's to deliver a blow to the boy's chest. He let the bokken lay there, and grinned. "And that" he said, with no small level of mirth "is how we duel in Merenae." (( Agility/Kenjutsu 35 ))

"Well, perhaps I will have to learn more about those foreign dueling style," Isao suggested, acknowledging his defeat thereafter. "And in return, I will have to properly teach you how we Rokugani duel. Savvy?"
He grinned at that and winked.

Rodrigo winked back, and bowed.
"I'll have to take you up on that, I think. Good fight."
And with that, Rodrigo stepped off the mat, making way for the next pair.
