"If pain is an illusion?" what in realms is she--she's not even a Dragon. Chiyo masked her judgement behind a tired look of concern. She didn't have time to ruffle the feathers on this Phoenix, nor the will to do so. If she wanted to limp on a swollen ankle all day tomorrow, that's her prerogative.
At least the Otomo insisted on taking this minor detour before they departed. It was both a blessing and curse in disguise. The Bayushi needed to discuss something with Mochihiko, preferably in private, but it was not something she was looking forward to discussing at all. It simply had to be done, and once it was, it'd be like ripping off a band-aid.
Actually, if Asako-san waited here, all the better. She might not have to get into the car to bring this up. It would definitely make for a more awkward trip, and it'd give the Otomo the opportunity to bail.
"We won't be long, Asako-san," she told the Phoenix, though she wasn't sure how much of a lie that could end up being. "The cafeteria is close by." She then waited on Mochihiko, prepared to lead the way there."Come. I don't think they've locked up yet."

Someone else in his shoes would probably choose to cancel this meeting or even use the girl's tardiness as an excuse to vanish, but not Otomo Mochihiko. If the Scorpion wants games, then he will play with her. Yoruga had confirmed his suspicions. Chiyo is here to draw blood and he is nothing but an assignment. Well, the assignment is going to have his fun.
He walks next to her wondering how love struck he should pretend to be, but then decides against it. It would look more genuine and far less suspicious to be his normal self.
"So? Where are we going next? We have to make sure that there is time for you to get enough of me." He says half teasingly.

His comment appeared to go over her head, whether she was working on keeping her on or distracted by her own thoughts.
It was a little of both, really. She could not determine how to begin, what to even say if she should say anything at all, then regretting having come out here in the first place. What was this Otomo to her? She used to think herself so highly that he wasn’t even worth being considered a rival, and their ‘friendship’ was more of a battle of wit and wills. What they did a couple of nights ago was inevitable at the rate they were going, but what did it all mean in the end? Why would she tell Mochihiko this sort of thing when Yoshi would likely be far more sympathetic, or Mako would be far more supportive?
She started as if she was about to say something, hesitated, then finally came out with it.
“I’m being pulled from the school.”

It takes a couple of seconds for the Imperial to speak. What kind of play is this? Do the Scorpion think that he is such a fool to... Do what exactly? This is a test, but he can't see what he is tested in.
Is he supposed to beg her to stay so that they can see if he cares or not? To pay her tuition fees so that he is linked to her and blackmail him by threatening to talk to Natsu? All these are too simplistic. It is not a game behind which he can see. He needs to be careful, so he decides once again to be himself. It doesn't get better than that after all.
"Why is that, hun? Did something happen?" He asks.

Chiyo took the inquiry as insult, her response delivered through a poorly controlled snarl, “Can we drop the games for a minute?”
How utterly suspicious indeed. The Bayushi? Cutting games? Is this in itself yet another game of hers?
She lets out a sigh, tension released, then shakes her head dismissively. “Forget it. I shouldn’t have wasted my breath, my time, or yours. I’m not going out tonight. I have to start packing up.”

"That's what I get for caring." Mochihiko's response is given without overthinking it. "Funny thing, you asking me to stop playing games. What request is to come next? To drop the masks?" He waves his hand dismissively. "Never mind. It is as you said. Let's not waste my time any longer. I have important things to do and you have to pack."
Surprisingly this last bit of sarcasm isn't as enjoyable as it should be for the Imperial. Neither this cancellation is much of a relief as one would expect. He anticipated crossing words with the Bayushi even if it would have been somewhat of a risk.
"What can I say? Fare well? Until we meet again? It doesn't really matter, does it?" The young man offers a small bow. "Have fun with your endeavors, Bayushi san. That should be enough."
