"And I you, Kakita-san." The Fortunes, she decided had a sense of humor. "Though I did not expect to meet you quite so soon."

"Has Fuyuko-sensei been talking of me!" she laughs a little "I am honoured" she looks at the Unicorn woman with different eyes now, not appraising a potential partner, but a potential mentor maybe "She has much to say of you too, of your wisdom, and loyalty, as well as the brightness that you bring to her life"

"Only to inform me that you exist, and that I might be of some assistance," she says, hoping not to hurt any image the Kakita had of the Doji. "I could have learned more, but I decided to find out for myself."
"As for myself, she exaggerates. I am no more wise or loyal than any other Utaku my age," she says, clearly shocked and embarrassed at the excess of praise Fuyuko had used to describe her. "And despite her dour demeanor, she brings as much light into my life as I do hers. It is an equal partnership, I would say."

"Oh, I am glad to hear it. She considers herself to be blessed by Lady Benten in finding you, and to hear that you feel the same way does my cold heart good"

"Benten, yes. Perhaps, I like to think, our respective patrons," she says, smiling. "
This Uetani was certainly more outwardly expressive than Fuyuko. If she squinted, she could see a little of Mako in there, in that free and easy expression of emotion. The thought was somewhat amusing. Somewhat.
"Now then, tell me about yourself. Fuyu-chan has taken an interest in teaching you, and I would prefer not to guess at her reasons. But if you would prefer not to say, I will respect that."

"Perhaps she sees something of me in her" Uetani ventures "Something she wishes to guide, to be the best of herself, without the worst?"

"I would not be surprised." She smiles at the memory. Of the many times that she and the Crane spoke to one another of being mentors, of guiding new generations of samurai. "I will venture a guess, then, that you have more similarities than the art of the duel?"

"In some ways yes, we are very similar, I would dare to say. We have similar drives, and similar reasons for them, similar desires and motivations" she confesses, realising, as she is speaking to her mentor's lover, that she might be giving a lot away

"Blood, pain, death? And the influence of Gaki-do upon your soul?" she inquires. It was easy to guess now why Fuyuko specifically mentioned this one student.
"I have some degree of familiarity."

"I have never killed" she admits "But the desire is strong, ever present. The realm of the Hungry Dead sustains me, but at the cost of leaving me always needing more, wanting more"
She sighs
"I deal with it differently from Fuyuko-sensei. She says that she practices hard to deny the beast, and keep it under control. I feed it just enough so that it does not become a problem. There is more honour, I think in her way. She is so much what I aspire to be"
