Bai nods. The jostling of the horse takes getting used to, but the slowed pace and Hisui's guidance means he gets the hang of it. "So, why don't you ride much anymore? Did you lose interest?"

Hisui keeps the pace controlled. She nods at the little ronin that comes in, but otherwise focuses on Bai and the horse. When the Phoenix asks the question, she turns just a tiny bit somber.
"Battle Maidens are paired to Utaku steeds early on in training. When their partner dies, it's often like losing a friend or family," she explains. "I lost mine in the war and I stopped riding much, even after they assigned me Sakura here. Good girl, but no Utaku steed."

"It's alright." She pauses and tugs a little, causing Sakura to go from a slow trot to something a little faster. "You seem to have balance in the saddle down. Let's pick up a little speed. If you handle that well, we'll see if you can ride without me to keep an eye on her."
"That sound fine?"

She nods and has Sakura pick up speed. Not a full gallop, but enough for the young Phoenix to feel the difference. Hisui herself strains a little to keep pace. Bai shouldn't have much trouble staying mounted, but the rocking and the speed might make it a little more challenging.

While he does give a little yelp at the increase in activity beneath him, Bai is able to keep in the saddle just fine. Although anyone paying attention might notice his knuckles whiten as he holds onto the saddle a little too hard. Other than that, he seems alright.

"I just need to be careful. Indeed, I have broken bones from lesser falls. But thank you for the encouragement." Bai nods. "Indeed, I just need to be careful." His grip lessons slightly, but is still tight.

"Oh? Well, I'll be sure to stay close, then. Either to catch you or get you to the infirmary," she says, smiling to reassure the Phoenix. "And keep Sakura here from running off. If you're getting uncomfortable or sore, just say so."
"Tell me about yourself, Shiba-san. Why the interest in military science? It's not something I commonly see among courtiers."
