Mako watched them all discussing death, and turned to look at Uetani, "Just so you know, I intend to live to see at least my grandchildren. If not great-grandchildren." She said this seriously, in a way she never thought she would have to, but this death worshipping family - well, she was used to Hisui's Lords of Death, honestly, she had paid heed in her time in the unicorn lands after all, even if she had already worshipped others above and before them. "I'm sorry if that's not what you want." She actually seemed slightly sad - as if she had intended to keep Uetani with her for so long into her life. After having barely made her into a girlfriend two days ago, and only having slept together once.

"I wouldn't mind seeing your grandchildren either, Mako-chan," Hisui comments, though she knows the words were meant for Uetani.
Mako had never been as comfortable as the rest of her family with death. It seemed even more of a contrast now, with Fuyuko and Uetani being welcomed. Hisui was comfortable with the idea of dying. She accepted it. It was one of those things she didn't run away from. In truth, some small part of her was fascinated by it. The last great enigma for her to study. But she also knew Mako wasn't the sort to see things that way.
She wanted to offer comfort, but in the end, she could only think of the words of an old priest. "All men must die," she begins. "But before that, all men must live."

"One of my goals in life is to give Mother the grandchild she so richly deserves."
She cups Mako's face lovingly, looking right into her eyes. Her tone is both apologetic and conciliatory "I would live for you. Forever I would live, and cheat death himself if I must." However much the idea of death appealed to her, Mako appealed more. Uetani would gladly remind her every day.
Next though, a painful confession "I fear though, my womb is ruined... I could not bear us children. I am sorry if this is not what you want"

Fuyu sighs lightly. "Emma-o is not kind to his children in that one regard." she says softly before she nods to her love and reaches to take her hand. "I would live for you my love." she says softly. "You know I would."

The hand is accepted. Hisui compounds it by clasping another, taking one of Fuyuko's with both of hers. How did this woman seem to know what dark things were going through her mind? How did the Dour Doji seem to have such an intimate understanding of what worried her? It amazed her at the depth of understanding the Crane could display.
"I know," she says, reassured. Happy. "But I would never ask you to live longer for my sake. You indulge me enough already. I just want you to be fulfilled and happy before it ends, and we cross blades for the last time."
The smile is new. Potent. Powerful. Happy. Like a full moon in all its heavenly glory. "You know me so well. How could I ever hope to deserve someone as wonderful as you?"

"I..." She didn't expect that from Uetani, she couldn't help herself from blushing, at that honest declaration, at the revelation of such truths, it was so much, and yet it made her feel so good, "I couldn't ask you to live forever if you don't want to." She held the Crane, smiling this little smile, "And... well, I don't need you to bear anything either." She brushed the back of her hand against Uetani's cheek, before moving that hand away from her, giving the little smile still.
"I just... don't want to have our time shortened. Any of ours." She looked towards the others, reaching one hand out for Hisui, and locking her eyes on Fuyuko, to ensure they all knew it applied to them, "I like this. This time together. The awkwardness, the silliness, the joy. I'm sorry that I'm so selfish. But I don't want it to end."

"Mei-nee..." She thinks of that night on the roof. How she thought of jumping "I promise I won't go looking for death. I have too much to live for now"
Her new family, her mother, the things she can learn. Mako. Mako most of all.

Fuyu smiles back, looking down with a blush. "It is not my blessing but the heavens blessing on both of us I hope. " she looks over to Mako and Uetani. "I, no longer long for death. But I will not shirk my duty. When it comes I will find happiness in it but you have my word, all of you. My word as a Samurai that I will not longer seak it with the fervor I did in the past. If I am fated to fall to the sword, I will. If not, then perhaps we can end each other, when we are old enough to need it. After we have met our grandchildren."

"Mmm, yes. The wise one in this relationship, definitely. I'll need to be the overly affectionate one, then." The smile continues. Anyone at the table could see it, this new thing coming from within her. But everyone could also plainly see there is only one person on the table that brings it out of the Utaku. She welcomes the promise, but shakes her head. "I don't need a promise."

Mako moved, scooting her chair, her self, everything to be next to Uetani. She wrapped the woman in her arms, and she held her, "I'm sorry for being a selfish person, Ni. I just..." A little small smile, "I like to think we can keep this happiness." She motioned over the table with one hand, "Us. The family. And other things too. It scares me to think it might slip away."
