Kobushi entered the dojo, found the lack of a sensei, and just sighed. It wasn't the first time, and he doubted it'd be the last.
In the short time since he arrived, he'd neglected his training with the yari, the most traditional of Daidoji weapons. He'd focused heavily on his fist-fighting and his swordsmanship, but it simply would not do to neglect his other skills. The fact that the class was devoid of a sensei was disheartening, but not that much a problem. He picked up a training weapon and started going through his forms and katas. The weight of it was familiar in his hands, and he got into the rhythm of it without much trouble.

Priya was in the dojo too, and she watched the Daidoji twirl and demonstrate with the weapon, impressed.
"You have a talent Kobushi-san" she calls as he takes a break. She picks up a training Yari of her own and spins it in her hands. Her kata is maybe less refined, but certainly there is a present skill.
"There are a few spear traditions in the Badger lands. Mainly based on throwing them though"

"Ah, Ichiro-san! It's been days." He smiles and puts the weapon down for a bit, to rest and to observe her movements. Rougher, he thinks, but Priya had the strength to compensate for a lack of finesse. "The yari is an old Daidoji weapon. It's so traditional that many of us forego the katana in favor of one, so I picked up a thing or two."
"Though I don't think we ever threw them."

"We throw the short ones mainly, the nage-yari" she explains "They are good weapons in the mountains, and rely on strength, like so many of the things the Badger teach"
She gestures on the training weapon to show how much shorter it is.
"I have thought it is a skill I should pick up more, to be honest. I am a disciple of the katana, through and through, but I would get better use of my height from a spear or polearm"

"Right. You would get more reach out of it, wouldn't you?" he answers, agreeing with her assessment. And reach was the weapon's main advantage. "And it's good to know how to use a second weapon in case you lose your main one."
"I don't suppose you know where the sensei is?"

"Not a clue" she confesses "I am sure that there is a Spears sensei. I have not seen their lessons posted though"
She tries a few more practice jabs with the weapon, dashing it forward
"I usually practice unarmed as my back up." she admits "But there will be times in my life, I am sure, when the spear will be more useful than the sword or fist"

"Well, at least I can say I tried to find a class." He shrugs.
He goes back to his kata, returning to swift movements and attacks. A good eye might see that he wields the weapon as if in tight quarters, rather than having a lot of room. Almost like he's fighting confined from either side.
"I would like to say I'm best with a spear, but I'm not. My hands are what I'm best at, with the spear and sword coming after."

"I'd like to say I was best with the sword and my hands, but I am best on skates really" she counters with a smile "You are quicker than me, more accurate. That will serve you well in a spar or battle"

"I haven't actually ever seen you fight or spar, so I can't say for sure, but I can guess all that muscle isn't just for show," he comments. "Actually, would you care to spar? Cross spears and all that?"

She smiles at him, and taps the spear to the ground "Let's dance my friend" she says with no small amount of confidence, taking her stance and launching into an attack spears: 4d10o10k3 25
