spears: 4d10o10k3 14She is obviously trained in this, but only in the basics. Her next swing is less than brilliant. She seems to take it good naturedly though, cursing like a sailor but with a smile on her face

Again, the Crane manages to deflect the incoming blow. His training, he realizes, has been more extensive than the Badger's. But he can see she could be good at this, if she trains. And he's willing to provide a little advice along those lines as he thrusts his weapon to tap her abdomen. "Don't try to force it," he says, taking note of what he thinks is her primary mistake. Spears 27The problem with her speed lets him deflect and then parry into his own attack without much trouble. All the while, he's trying to assess her potential. She's fast, maybe just a little slower than he is. But he can see the lack of proper training. She knows how to hold a spear, point it at the other guy. None of the finer points of its use. "Spear fighting needs speed," he advises again, perhaps sounding a little too much like a sensei. "Think of it like a bear snatching a fish out of water. Fast enough to dive in, grab the salmon, and get it out. Spear thrusts are the same. Push in, attack, pull back."
