"In the end, how you handle it is your choice," the Utaku answers. She smiles, mostly to show she does not judge. "I admit to not understanding this sort of arrangement. I don't think it's wrong, but I do know it is not for me or your mother."

"I shall try to mend my wounded heart" she looks at Hisui with those eyes, beautiful and alluring, that speak a little too much of the things she might want to do if there was no reason not to"

She tilts her head, confused. She's not entirely sure what the thoughts running around in the Crane's mind are.
"Why the wounded heart? Has my confusion hurt you in some way?"

"It is a joke dear one, based upon how I felt when I first met you"

"Oh!" She laughs a little. It is good, perhaps, that she can laugh at that. "If it's any consolation, you're quite the beauty. Had I been anyone else, I imagine you'd not have been shot down."

"Had you been not dating my mother you mean" she smiles wickedly "I will admit I am not used to rejection. It was a new sensation for me, and I do enjoy those"

"You're a little young for me, Uetani-san," she answers, somehow calm despite the reminder the Kakita had less than pure intentions when they first met. "And you have more years ahead of you to live than I do. No sense in wasting so many of them watching me wither away. I would never rob you of that."

"Hmmm" she shrugs a little "I have never been so devastated, when I watched a flower wilt. Things pass when it is their time. I would gladly be with an older person, if for the time that we had together. Watching them grow old would be no hardship in comparison to the flower of their youth"
she hopes it is clear she is talking in hypothetical, rather than any misplaced desire

"Then should you find that older person, they are very fortunate," she answers.
She does not see desire in the words. But for the first time, she catches a glimpse of insight into how Mako might have seen things. It does not make her reconsider her choices, but she is grateful for the understanding.
"Thank you. I believe you've just given me a moment of clarity on a matter."

"Iaijutsu is all about those moments of clarity" she responds with a little playfulness "I need not find an older person, anyone in particular. I only hope that I can have a love that will burn like that of my Mothers. I have many such passions, and fires, but I fear that they might not endure... Nomen has... shaken me"
