"...perhaps, Ichiro-san, but if we do not wake Goemon we leave the Empire without one of it's most important fortunes. What would have happened on the Third Day of Thunder if the Thunders would not have risen? They were heroes; Goemon played a part that day. Throughout history, in times of struggle heroes have risen to defeat darkness. We would be destroying one of the most important catalysts for that."
She sighed, and shook her head.
"And on the topic of wishes, I see nothing wrong with making them if we do decide to not wake Goemon. There is honor, and then there is foolishness. If we decide to deprive the Empire of a fortune, the least we can do is make wishes to help it."

Rodrigo scoffed at Hinata.
"What, you think a hero requires divine intervention? What's to stop a regular person from taking up a sword and fighting the darkness? I'd argue that's more heroic, taking on such a task without hoping the gods have your back. That takes far more courage."
He shrugged and crossed his legs, looking far more relaxed than the situation warranted.
"Heroes are made every day, it all depends on what they do. Maybe being able to make your own heroes would be a boon, not a curse."

Fuyuko frowns. "There is an order to the universe. A system. Some of us will lose more then others. Maybe today we don't need heroes though I know that to be a lie. But what about 10 years from now. 100? You told me that there would be no wishes granted to dishonorable individuals. I argue anybody willing to put their personal happiness above the Empire by making such a wish is a dishonorable individual. If there is another way this one is open to listen. But to rob the Empire of a fortune just to get a personal happiness? It makes us unworthy of that happiness and the other fortunes will notice." She looks to Noboru and Yoko. "You seem to know more then you let on. What have you perceived?"

Hinata was silent while Rodrigo and Fuyuko spoke, the gears turning in her head. Something about this whole situation did not seem right, and it was just now that she was starting to realize it. She remembered something the earth kami had said when she spoke with them, that the fall of Goemon was due in part to the actions of Fu Leng. This is when things began to fall into place.
"...If I may have a moment, I have something important I must say" she said, speaking up so the whole assembly hall could hear her.
"I spoke to the earth kami at the temple of Goemon days ago. I asked them why the statue of Goemon had shattered, why it could not be repaired, and they placed the blame on the Dark Kami."
She began to pace as she spoke, the picture in her head continuing to form.
"If Goemon is in four pieces, why does this woman only say he is in one? Every statue broke into four, that is not something insignificant. If he is four, he cannot be one. In addition to this, if this is all just a dream, why are we only seeing the effects of it now? Why can we not reach the outside world, why is the sky only lighting up tonight? Why is this woman only choosing now to tell us all of this? Could she not have warned us earlier? Told us the choice we could make before we got so invested in our lives here?"
She looked at the Moto, her eyes hard.
"And if she is so impartial as she claims, why is she trying so hard to goad us into choosing to make wishes? Why is she the only one who can make them? I think there is much she is not telling us, and we cannot trust what she says. Not if this is possibly the work of the Dark Kami. Not if she is pushing us so hard to make one decision."

"Moto-sama, what right do any of us have to say that this dream world is the 'proper' world and that we should impose it on Ningen-do? I mean, what if the Dark Kami were to dream that the Thunders - any set of them - had lost and found a way to overwrite Ningen-do with the thing from his dreams?" "Then I guess it would be a nice dream for them?" Ayumu flashed a sheepish smile and offered a half hearted shrug, "But that's a bit more than a minor wish or goal, and it wouldn't matter here anyway. Yume-do and Ningen-do are mingling regardless, imposing into one another whether it was us or a different set of students and teachers. I don't think it'll help anyone by trying to make this more complicated than that." "But life is struggle. And you don't succeed without learning to take a few risks." She sighs. "So do it. Give me what you think I want, as long as it doesn't affect anyone but me. Let's see what happens." Ayumu laughed a bit, bowing her head to Hisui. "Well, I don't think it's what you want. I know it's something you want. If you prefer not having that, then maybe something else. Otherwise, sure, we can fix that leg up no problem. It'll be done and you won't have to go through so much trouble to get a lesser result. I can only do it if you really want me to though." She looked at Ayumu. "Would it be possible to make it so that the monster in my head was never there?" Ayumu rubbed her chin a bit, like an old wizened man trying to figure out an even older riddle. "That's a tough one, but I think it could be done. You're talking about that Kuni fellow right? I can't get rid of him from any super early parts in your life, but I could have the connection to him vanish so he no longer haunts you. Would that work?" "So, uh, pardon me for speaking up here. I know I don't know nearly as much about all this...celestial stuff as you guys do, but here's my thought: if it happened shortly enough ago that I got pulled into it, it's not so far back that nobody here would know eachother. The likelihood of us meeting eachother again and things going similarly are pretty good then, yeah? It's not like we become completely different people." Ayumu shook her head. "Nope, not as simple as that. It won't line up for everyone as well, since what you desired and reached for here was sped up and made easier. Even relationships were made easier for everyone to forge. It's been easy street here." "If Goemon is in four pieces, why does this woman only say he is in one? Every statue broke into four, that is not something insignificant. If he is four, he cannot be one. In addition to this, if this is all just a dream, why are we only seeing the effects of it now? I think there is much she is not telling us, and we cannot trust what she says. Not if this is possibly the work of the Dark Kami. Not if she is pushing us so hard to make one decision." Ayumu blinked at her with a goofy smirk, trying not to laugh a little bit at how intense the kuni had suddenly gotten. "Well uh, I never said he was in pieces like you claim. But I can totally get this sudden suspicion. That's why I'm being as honest as I can be. Truth is I wasn't even sure Goemon was going to be here as a sensei of all things nor that the realms would smoosh themselves together so closely. I'm not sure about dark kami, but maybe you have the meaning wrong?" She tried to offer a sensible idea, but even she wasn't truly sure. Kami are sort of weird in their answers after all. "But please, don't say I'm trying to goad you into anything. I'm offering am opportunity in an event that would happen anyway. If you don't want a wish, by all means, don't make one. I'll answer your questions as best I can though, so please, keep em coming. I've been enjoying some of the wilder theories so far!"

Hinata crossed her arms, eyeing Ayumu with suspicion, though the look did soften a little.
"You said he was one man. You said it was the Rakugo teacher. Yet every statue broke into four pieces; I refuse to believe that has no bearing on the situation. How do you know he is the only one? Do you know his name?"
She was going to say nothing more on her wish until she was absolutely sure she could trust this woman.

Hisui shakes her head, but smiles. "No, Moto-sama. As much as I think you are being honest in every word we speak, I dare not directly wish for anything."
She sits back down, contemplating.
"The Fortunes are not their domains," she says, recalling. "Did people not persist before Kisada? Did samurai not seek to find perfection before Kurohito? Was there no justice to be found before Saibankan? There heroes in the Empire long before Goemon, and there would be heroes without him."
"Let me make it clear that I do not advocate what I am about to ask, but I do think we should know. Moto-sama, what happens if we choose to kill Goemon?"
She turns to Fuyuko.
Their meeting was built on circumstance. The details of that day before school began had been so important. If the Akodo hadn't walked in. If the Priya hadn't kept Aiko busy. If the Otomo hadn't suggested a dip. If Fuyuko hadn't been left adrift in the conversation. If she hadn't been drinking just hours before. Change the circumstances and everything changes. They might never have spoken to each other at all.
Awakening Goemon reduces everything she and Fuyuko had to just a dream. Then again, was it ever anything but that to begin with?
She smiles weakly, looking at the necklace she gave as a gift and brandishing the ring she was given. "I will find you. If you will still have me."

Koshiro shook his head. None of them understood him. No matter. His wish was already made. "If making a wish makes me a sinner, then a sinner I am. I'd ask if my lord wishes for my seppuku for this, but I don't have that luxury either." He shakes his head and heads to an empty corner of the gym so that others don't have to be around a sinner like him.

Hinata looked at Hisui, her expression a mix of shock and curiosity. She did not peg the woman as the sort of person to suggest such sacrilege without a point.
"Kill him? Why would we do that?"

Hinata looked at Hisui, her expression a mix of shock and curiosity. She did not peg the woman as the sort of person to suggest such sacrilege without a point. " Kill him? Why would we do that?" "Because he might be on the verge of death, and it would be a mercy? Because he is the Fortune of Heroes and he would be willing to sacrifice himself if it meant sparing all of us, all of the Empire, whatever damage might be caused by our decision? Because it might be what he wants, and he was who broke the statues to try and tell us this?" she says. "My point isn't that we should commit sacrilege by killing a Fortune. My point is that we simply do not have all the information." "At this point, we might as well consider every option available so we can eliminate them one by one." "I'd ask if my lord wishes for my seppuku for this, but I don't have that luxury either." "The Crown Prince," she points out. "Or are you saying you do not serve the Imperial House?"
