"Oof!"
She caught him hard and fast. At least it felt hard. While she had reach, he had flexibility. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Isao felt the wind knocked out of him from the uppercut and he staggered back, reeling and sucking in air. Dazed and confused, Isao stumbled back into the fight attempting to mirror her style out of a lack of understanding regarding what right looked like.
"And you're good," he huffed, grinning when he got his bearings back. The Kakita smiled and threw another punch, a quick jab as he tried to anticipate her defense.

"Thanks!" she says, springing back, baiting him into taking another step forward. "Spent the last few summers training along Kaiu Kabe in the South. You tend to pick up a thing or two there." A friendly wink is tossed his way. "It's hard not to."
Bouncing light on the balls of her feet, Tetsuko's long hair whips up and down in rhythm. she jabs twice lighting into the air, but otherwise maintains some distance between her and Isao.

"Oh sh-"
Duck and weave, duck and weave! Isao was put on the defensive, attempting to evade her blows as she began to rain down a flurry of them. The Crane nimbly moved around her, playing the 'not the face' game with the Doji. He barely managed not to get clipped and found himself breathing heavier, the previous fight adding to the weight of the current.
"Kaiu Kabe? Sounds exciting," he huffed. "But I've seen sailors brawl on the Samui Kaze Toshi docks. Bare knuckled, swaying like the sea. You gave Ichiro-san a good licking, but are you the best...?"
With a grin he tried to lure her in to create an opening. She could read him easily.

((whoops! That was supposed to say lightly, not lightning. Damn Phone... guess we'll roll with it))
Tetsuko nods, leading with a left jab and closing the distance.
"Yeah, sea-vessel fighting is a whole 'nother thing." with the last word, she pulls the jab short and instead throws a right hook wide.

He wasn't expecting that.
Isao wasn't expecting to win either.
Honestly, all Isao expected was to get thrashed by the third year and so far, he was par for the course. The younger Crane got clocked with her right hook without quite realizing what had happened. He took it right on the chin. Light or not, he was unprepared for the blow and hit the ground. Isao didn't realize what had happened until he was staggered, on his knees dazed and confused looking up at the girl. Without his glasses on everything looked blurry so he squinted.
"Ugh," he grunted, getting his bearings again. "I-I think that's three."

She grins cheekily.
"Well, you know, boxing really ain't all that different from kendo. The mind games, the way your body moves, all that sorta stuff." She pads over to her gym bag, extricating a towel and wiping her face off. "Though, I could see you trying to use some o' them Iaido techniques without the blade, so... there's that at least!" she adds cheerily before tossing the towel to Isao.

"The techniques could be applied," he murmured, rubbing his chin. The young Crane stood up, shook his head, and caught the towel just in time. He wiped the sweat from his brow and let out a smooth exhale, somewhat winded. Back to back sparring was always an exercise in cardio. He thought over her words but knew he couldn't apply the technique without first understanding the basis of jiujutsu. "I'll need to practice before I can translate the motions, but you are right."
Fundamentally, all fighting shared a common root. It was only a matter of the swordsman to translate that knowledge from one martial art to the next.
"That was fun though, Doji-senpai, and I hope it was for you too - even if I was a pushover."
He offered her a sheepish grin.

Tetsuko shrugs.
"Not sure I have ever had a spar that wasn't fun, Kakita-san. Even if you loose, you can always learn something." she offers optimistically.

He grinned at that and handed her towel backs.
"Thanks," he offered. "I should go shower and check out the rest of the campus. I hope to see you around sometime, Senpai."
He offered her a bow, collected his martial arts bag, and headed for the showers.
