"Now that you mention it senpai, I really should learn how to swim," Kobushi comments. "Didn't have the time to learn between the fist fights and drills back at Clear Water."

Isao knew how to swim. Well, doggy paddle was more like it. When you grew up next to a beach, you knew how to swim in some capacity. The Crane nodded to their Scorpion companion and looked to Kobushi when he mentioned fist fights. "I know a Crane girl here at school who likes to box," he commented. "Do you do boxing or wrestling...?"

"A little bit of both," he says. He's sheepish about it, but there's no small hint of pride too. "I trained with the Hida Pragmatists, so striking and wrestling were both standard. Along with using whatever you could get your hands on."

"Oh! You should totally meet Doji Tetsuko then," he offered, his grin growing. "I boxed with her in the dojo this morning. She clocked me right on the chin. If you two like boxing and wrestling, I'll have to introduce you two: mutual interests, of course." He nodded readily, glad he knew two fellow Crane with similar interests. Mutual connections were good things to have. As a fellow first year, he wanted to help Kobushi out.

"Sounds great," he says, thankful for the assistance. "I have a lot of experience with girls who have mean right hooks. I just hope she doesn't give me another scar."
"What about you, Kakita-san? You do any jiujitsu? Or did you stick to the traditional iai?"

"Yeah. My father is a bit of a staunch traditionalist," Isao explained. "So he wanted me to attend the KDA opposed to something different. It was good enough for him, and good enough for his father, and good enough for his grandfather... So it was good enough for me, I suppose."

"Tradition. Where would we be without tradition?" He pauses, then pries. "What would you have done, if you had the choice?"

"Hmm. I don't know," Isao mused, placing his finger on his chin thoughtfully as they walked.
"But... There are a lot of cool institutions across the Empire. The Hiruma maintain an interesting school on swordsmanship, and I always thought the stories of the Togashi were really cool. The Akodo, the Bayushi, and the Shinjo also have interesting schools. But outside of the more traditional schools, there are others."
He nodded along as he rattled off a few from the top of his head.

Kobushi laughs.
"So many choices. So many possibilities. It's a wonder how people choose, if they didn't have someone make it for them, isn't it?"

"Well... I guess it's something to be thankful for, huh?"
He shrugged. "I've excelled in my studies anyways. I graduated at the top of my class last year. So, there's no point thinking about what could have been: I've found my calling after all."
