Suzaku scoffed somewhat, breaking his smile. This was a pointedly rude insult to his ancestors as well as the Crane. He'd do his best to exonerate the teachings of The Sword, with all respect to Niten.

Fuyuko notices the insult but does not comment on it. The petty rivalry had gotten in the way of all sorts of things lately and she hoped she could teach him respect before the end. Fuyu gives a small nod. "Very well. As this is an introduction class we will be working on basics first. Those of you who will also be taking my advanced class, there is no shame in sharpening ones skills. I expect you to try your best. In this room we honor the techniques of those who came before us, I myself was trained in the Art of Kakita's Sword but what I teach will be to sharpen your skills in whatever school you have the honor of representing. As such we will be doing an exercise today to practice the art of Focus. Who can tell me about Focus and how it factors into the duel." she asks sternly, the Ex-cop coming through more then the Crane this point. She gestures with her parasol as each person raises their hand to give the a cue to speak.

Suzaku raises his hand and when acknowledged speaks in a slow, goshi drawl "Speaking from my school, as I am afraid I have little experience outside it, while focus is indeed focusing one's ki on the perfect strike, 'focusing on one's opponent's destiny to bring them to end with a perfect cut'" SUzaku pauses reverently after paraphrasing Kakita " focus is also an outgrowth of patience and one of the most important aspects of fencing, timing. If I strike early and rashly the opponent may cut me with better timing, if I strike too late, the opponent catches me napping. I am unfamiliar with Niten, but I believe it says 'Strike when his timing will prevent him from acting, and strike when your opponent believes you cannot.' One more learned than I can correct me. My dojo teaches this as patience, and All Things in Time."

Isao raised his hand!
"Focus is... Knowing the right moment when to strike, Sensei," Isao offered in the simplest terms. "After you understand your opponent, there is an opportunity within the Void. Your focus allows you to better find that perfect moment, Sensei."

Reiha gives Tarik a quick nod and hushed 'yes-have-you-eaten-rice-today'. As Fuyuko-sensei orders them to put their katana on the rack she quickly hops to attention and does so, looking wide-eyed at the Dragon playing his guitar. She is prone to getting distracted too, but this is truly taking it to a whole new level!

Priya takes notes, not raising her hand, but diligently learning how to perfect this art with the first step.

Others were far quicker to answering a question Satoru only believed he knew the answer to. He was way more of a ‘just do the things’ kind of person than a conceptual fellow. Now, he could go on and on about drifting, or why paladins in Warzone made for a broken class, but when it comes to something that is actually important in the adult world? Yeah...he wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box. He would not be the first to raise his hand in class for a long, long time.

Noboru looks up a moment as if to answer, but then starts moving his fingers along the frets of his guitar, still seemingly more interested in it even though he's no longer strumming the strings.

The whole thing was started to get too weird. He looked around him and was surprised with Fuyu not going berzerk. He remained silent since he had no idea what these guys were talking about.

Fuyu gives a quick nod. "Good. Very good answers all of you. When one is in a duel, the important step is patience, finding the moment to strike. It is a matter of instinct but it is an instinct that can be honed." he holds her umbrella like a sword and takes a dueling stance before noticeably tensing up, something those who have dueled can clearly see before she lets out a single strike. "Prepare too early, and scream your intent to your foe. Prepare too late ..." she says doing the same setup except this time she stayed relaxed up until the last second. The strike was good but again those who are trained will see the tiny error of accuracy caused by trying to go from Center to Fire stance too quickly. "And your strike loses strength. To that effect I have prepared something that will help you practice your ability to find the void." she gestures to the circle of chairs in he middle of the room. "Musical chairs" she says with the dead serious expression only a tiny goth crane can give. She adjusts her opaque goggles slightly, they were better for dueling then the eye-patch but slightly less comfortable.
