"It's not just communications itself that is important, but jamming capabilities of the enemy to disrupt our communications," Kojima noted. "Something we need to consider is that Rokugan High School as a fortification would likely have a lot of these capabilities. Commo is a vital function on the battlefield, so having a proficient Commo Officer to anticipate for disruptions is vital.
"Shiba-san brings up a valid point about the use of siege equipment - the terrain limits our ability to maneuver them through the woodland areas surrounding the castle. So, we should deploy them alongside the heavy infantry unit to help weaken and break the front gates - opposed to smashing our forces against it. We need to think smarter, not harder. You can certainly attempt to win a war by smashing a round peg through a square hole... Or we can think through our plans, as we are doing now. I admire your bravado, Mitsu-san. You will make a fine line commander, leading the charge to seize our objectives."
The Imperial surveyed the map and nodded, thinking through his student's suggestions.
"Utaku-san brings up a good point about using a diversion, however. It's important to always keep the enemy on their toes, guessing and reacting. A successful officer is always one step ahead of his enemy.
"So, that leaves the following:"
He began to write on the dry erase board, numbering the items.
"Requesting siege equipment to be deployed with our heavy infantry division at the gates.
"Requesting jamming and/or anti-jamming capabilities for the Commo Officer to deploy among the five divisions.
"Using the light infantry divisions embedded in the wood line to feint."
Afterwards, he turned back to his class.
"Go ahead and have a seat now. This exercise is going to evolve and during our next class we're going to run simulations to determine the overall success or failure of the battle plans. Until then, however, I have something special for you:
"A pop quiz."
Kojima produced a stack of papers from his desk and began to distribute them among his students.
"Your testing results are important. They will determine your placements during exams."
Once everyone was given a paper, he looked at his watch.
"Go. You have 20 minutes."
